ILWACO – Hilltop Bowl is hosting an American Cancer Society Relay for Life bowl-a-thon beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13. The cost is just $12 per person for three games and shoe rental. SEAVIEW – On Aug. 15, local Republicans welcome Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna who will speak on “The Origins of the Mortgage and Real Estate Crisis – How Misguided Federal Policies Landed Us in This Mess.” Also joining the event are special guests and the two announced Republicans running for Congress in the 3rd Congressional District. LONG BEACH – The 2009 Washington State International Kite Festival is held Aug. 17 through Aug. 23. There is a different theme each day of the festival. Monday’s theme is “Kite Trains, Arches and More;” Tuesday’s theme is “Terrific Tuesday Top Teams;” Wednesday’s theme is “Paint me Patriotic;” Thursday events include the handcrafted comprehensive competition; Friday is the fighter kite and sport kites competitions; Saturday is the mass ascension and other competitions; and Sunday includes the memorial fly, hot tricks and lots more. ILWACO – The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum is hosting an exhibit entitled, “Key Ingredients” from Sept. 5 to Oct. 25. This exhibition explores the connections between Americans and the food they produce, prepare, preserve and present at the table. It is a provocative and thoughtful look at the historical, regional and social traditions that merge in everyday meals and celebrations.
