ILWACO – Olde Towne Trading Post, the coffee shop across from the heritage museum in Ilwaco, hosts an Authors’ Showcase the fourth Wednesday evening of the month. Writers are encouraged to come share works in progress or published writings, and everyone is welcome to come hear these original stories. CATHLAMET – Kenzie Abbott, a 16-year-old from Cathlamet, has seizures and is putting together a cookbook to help raise money for a service dog that can detect and warn her and people around her before she has a seizure. ILWACO – Coastal Community Action Program (CCAP) is giving away personal hygiene packs to low income families/individuals. Those qualified may pick up one pack every six months at the CCAP office in Ilwaco Community Building, top floor, at 152 1st N Ave., in Ilwaco. LONG BEACH – Line dancing on the Peninsula is offered at Long Beach Grange at 5715 Sandridge Road. Red Ribbon week

PACIFIC COUNTY – Through Oct. 31, the Peninsula is celebrating Red Ribbon Week, a national drug prevention campaign that takes a stand to commit to drug prevention and education and to living drug-free lives. “Killing Time”

ILWACO – Two actors, Bill Hamm and Melissa McCloud, face off in a clever and challenging thriller written by Richard Stockwell and directed by Laurie Carter. Art Around Town

PENINSULA – Peninsula Arts Association has numerous pieces of artwork by members on display during October. Marilyn Casey’s coastal paintings are being shown at the Ocean Beach Hospital. Vivian Easter and Sharon Bernasek are showing their varied paintings at the Pacific County building on Sandridge. Elizabeth Bonn-Zimmerman is showing her paintings at the Ilwaco library. PAA hopes that you will take time to admire this artwork.

AA meetings

OCEAN PARK and SEAVIEW – Alcoholics Anonymous has two group meetings on the Peninsula. The Ocean Park group meets at 7:30 p.m., at the Ocean Park Methodist Church at 1202 262nd Place on Mondays and Fridays. Tell-Tale Heart

ILWACO and NASELLE – Ilwaco Timberland Library presents The Tell-Tale Heart, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Oct. 30 for adults and teens, and Naselle library hosts the same event from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., that same evening. Christopher Leebrick presents a riveting performance of Edgar Allan Poe’s short story masterpiece. The show also features some other eerie tales and a discussion of the story and its author. Monday, Nov. 1Coat/blanket/shoe drive

PACIFIC COUNTY – Starting Nov. 1, United Way will be collecting coats, blankets and shoes, particularly new children’s tennis shoes, for distribution to needy children in Pacific County. Tuesday, Nov. 2Drill Conductor course

ASTORIA – Attention all commercial fishermen – there will be two classes offered to meet the new regulation for a drill conductor to be on board each boat. This two-day marine safety and survival training course enables attendees to meet that requirement. Pre-registration is required, but the course is free. It will be offered from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 and Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 at Clatsop Community College’s MERTS building in Astoria. Clamming

PENINSULA – A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Low tides adjusted for Pacific beaches those days are as follows: Friday, Nov. 5, 7:47 p.m. -1.3 and Saturday, Nov. 6, 8:34 p.m. -1.5. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

Auction Gala

ILWACO – On Nov. 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum on Lake Street in Ilwaco will host an auction of more than 50 artworks to benefit the museum’s exhibition programs. A diverse group of regional artists have created 6×6-inch masterpieces, which will be on display in the museum lobby from Oct. 23 until the Auction Gala on Nov. 6. 4-H Lock-In

WARRENTON – Hey Kids … do you like to play games, make crafts and swim? If so, come join the 4-H sponsored youth Lock-In on Nov. 6 at the KOA in Warrenton. This event is for any youth in grades fourth through sixth who wants to have some fun. The event runs from 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 until 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7. Concert/Fisher Poet

SKAMOKAWA – Alexa Wiley, regional singer and songwriter, and Dave Densmore, well-known fisher poet, will perform at Redmen Hall/River Life Interpretive Center to raise funds for Friends of Skamokawa. Their performance, “For Love of Fish,” will be on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The concert is offered in conjunction with a photography exhibit by David Myers, formerly of Eden Valley, and Judy Vandermaten of Cathlamet. Both photographers will speak about their exhibit at the concert and the audience will have the opportunity to view their photographs following the concert and visit with the artists. Tickets will be $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and students, and $5 for those 12 and under.
