Saturday, April 3Boater education class

ILWACO – From 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on the first Saturday of each month through June, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is holding a class to assist attendees in obtaining the required Washington state Boater Education card. These cards are required for anyone who is 30 years old or younger who plans to operate a boat. The cost is $25, and pre-registration is requested. The next class is April 3. NRA banquet/auction

OCEAN PARK – On Saturday, April 3 the Chinook Valley Friends of NRA will hold a banquet and auction fundraiser at the Peninsula Senior Center at 21603 Pacific Hwy. LONG BEACH – Spring is here, so spring into the Long Beach Elks for bingo. The Elks has bingo three days a week – every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. The 15-game program includes a Texas blackout and a $250 blackout. Snacks and pull-tabs are available. The public is welcome. Elks bingo proceeds fund the Washington State Tall Elks Therapy program.

Easter egg hunt

OCEAN PARK – Come on out to the Beach Barons field at 245th and Sandridge Road for the traditional Easter egg hunt at 1 p.m., on April 3. The Beach Barons have had an Easter bunny hiding eggs for a couple of weeks and kids are invited to come and find them. Bring Easter baskets and see how many eggs you can collect. Ducks Unlimited Banquet

ASTORIA – The 33rd annual banquet of the North Coast Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will be held on Saturday, April 3, at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds. Doors open at 5 p.m., and dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. The event includes a fine dinner, live and silent auctions and assorted raffles and games of chance. About 30 guns will be auctioned or given away. Regular ticket price is $45. Special ticket packages are available. All tickets include the dinner, Ducks Unlimited membership and magazine and a chance at the door prize gun. Hazard sirens testing

SOUTH BEND – The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency (PCEMA) will conduct testing of the All Hazard Alert Broadcast (AHAB) sirens on Monday, April 5, at noon. The AHAB sirens will sound the Westminster chimes for 10 seconds followed by a 15-second verbal message stating “This is a test of the Emergency Management Agency Tsunami Warning System. This is only a test.” The PCEMA has requested assistance from Pacific County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services volunteers in tracking the success of the test. ILWACO – The city of Ilwaco’s Black Lake Restoration Project Steering Committee will meet on April 8 at 5:30 p.m. to share and discuss the final draft of a plan to eliminate the weeds in Black Lake. When finalized, the plan will be submitted to the Washington State Department of Ecology for a grant. Willapa Hills’ music

LONG BEACH – On Sunday, April 11, starting at 3 p.m., at the Cranberry Museum at 2907 Pioneer Road in Long Beach, the public is invited to come to a concert with the theme, ‘Springers and Springboards,’ which features songs by and about people of the Lower Columbia-Pacific Region, as performed by the band, Willapa Hills and will include original works, as well as their own arrangements of songs by Mary Garvey, Ray Raihala of the Brownsmead Flats. The group will also perform a few traditional folk tunes representative of some of the major immigrant groups to the area. Audience members will be encouraged to participate in some of the numbers.. This group includes musicians Kerry McNalley, Sunrise and Jessica Fletcher, Fern Fey, Jennifer Hannigan and Andrew Emlen, and highlights the guitar, autoharp, banjo, mandolin, cello, Jew’s harp, fiddle, piano and more. There is a suggested $10 donation.

Audubon meeting

LONG BEACH – Discovery Coast Audubon Society of Pacific County meets at 7 p.m. on April 12, at the PUD auditorium on Sandridge Road, just north of Pioneer Road. The guest speaker is Julie Tennis, environmental education specialist with Long Beach Area State Parks, who will be sharing a presentation about the program on environment that she and the team at Cape Disappointment State Park have been providing to Ocean Beach School District’s fifth and eight grade science students. RAYMOND and LONG BEACH -The public is invited to three free energy symposiums sponsored by the Pacific County PUD. Then on April 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be gatherings at the Long Beach Grange at 5715 Sandridge Road. An instructor from Centralia Community College will be on hand to discuss topics such as methods of making your home more energy efficient, comfortable and healthy; the most cost effective measures for lowering heating bills; relative costs of heating with wood, propane, electricity, etc.; the potential for renewable energy sources and incentives for conservation measures. Rummage Sale

SEAVIEW – St. Mary’s Alter Society is holding their annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Friday, April 16 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 17. This is a fundraiser to help support various charity projects this group is involved with. There will be everything from clothing to collectibles, plants and a bake sale, plus a raffle drawing for a variety of items including framed art by local artists. Lunch is available both days. OCEAN PARK – The Friends of Ocean Park School are hosting an online auction to raise money for their school. The auction will feature a wide variety of items to include gift certificates to local restaurants and hair salons, seafood, day passes to amusement parks, computer services, hotel and bed and breakfast accommodations, paintings from local artists and baked goods just to name a few. The group is raising money to help fund school field trips, recess equipment and assemblies at Ocean Park School. English Tea/Market Day

CATHLAMET – St. James Family Center is holding a Miniature Market Day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 17. Follow the signs to the center from SR-4. This is a cooperative event between Grays Harbor Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Department of Natural Resources, Grays Harbor College, and the WSU Extension office. Lunch will be provided. Find out what assistance programs might be available for small forest landowners as well as information on a variety of topics related to forest health, wildlife and tree vigor. The event will focus on hands-on teaching and is open to all ages, as activities for youth will be ongoing throughout the day. Youth under age 14 need to be accompanied by an adult. Advanced registration, received by April 30 is $10 per person or $15 per family. Registration at a later date will be $15 per person and $20 per family.
