SEAVIEW – St. Mary’s Alter Society is holding their annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Friday, April 16 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, April 17. This is a fundraiser to help support various charity projects this group is involved with. There will be everything from clothing to collectibles, plants and a bake sale, plus a raffle drawing for a variety of items including framed art by local artists. Lunch is available both days. GRGG Potluck & Speaker
KLIPSAN – Share a potluck dinner Friday, April 16, at the Peninsula Senior Center, starting at 5 p.m. The potluck is always a fun place to visit with other volunteers from past cleanups and meet new ones while rolling up garbage bags for the beach cleanup the next day. The speaker that evening will be Teresa DeLorenzo, who will present many facts about local plants and animals, including: sexual habits of slugs, reverence for skunk cabbage, trillium love medicine, why Ursa rules the skies, endangered snags, and the importance of attracting birds, bees and bats. It is sure to be an educational and entertaining program for everyone.

Clamming
PENINSULA – A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point from Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 18, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between midnight and noon. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide. Low tides adjusted for Pacific beaches those days are as follows: Friday, April 16, 9:37 a.m. -0.4; Saturday, April 17, 10:16 a.m. -0.4; Sunday, April 18, 10:59 a.m. -0.4. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

CATHLAMET -St. James Family Center is holding a Miniature Market Day from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 17. Follow the signs to the center from SR-4. The market will feature an array of items including indoor and outdoor plants, handmade pots, porcelain dolls, marmalade and a variety of collectibles, both new and antique. Smithsonian exhibit
SKAMOKAWA – Redmen Hall is showing a Smithsonian Museum exhibit titled ‘American Folklife – Commonwealth of Cultures.’ This exhibit will be illustrated with examples of folklife from our local area and will feature local folk art, crafts and food. Bingo!
LONG BEACH – The Elks has bingo every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m. The 15-game program includes a Texas blackout and a $250 blackout. Snacks and pull-tabs are available. The public is welcome. Elks bingo proceeds fund the Washington State Tall Elks Therapy program.

OCEAN PARK – North Beach Water District will perform preventive water main flushing from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday, April 18 through Friday, May 7. This action may cause red or cloudy water, which is not harmful to a person’s health but may cause rust stains on light or colored laundry. Please be sure to check the water prior to doing laundry. Honoring grandmothers
ASTORIA – At 7 p.m., on Tuesday, April 20, American Association of University Women (AAUW) will honor four well-loved Astorian grandmothers in the Flag Room of the Astoria Public Library at 450 Tenth Street. AAUW’s interest in Astoria’s history, its women and its family experiences takes a leap forward when three prominent Astorians recall impressions of their grandmothers. Leroy Adolphson, active in the Finnish Brotherhood and owner of One Six Five West Bond Beauty Salon, shares stories of his grandmother, Emelia Bohm. Emelia was a prominent Astorian herself, having been a union supporter in Union Town. Skip Hauke, retired grocery store owner and current executive director of the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce, will talk about his grandmother, Petra Henningsen. Completing the panel is Marian Soderberg. Active in the Sons of Norway and as the volunteer coordinator for cruise ship visits, retired teacher and counselor Soderberg will talk about her grandmothers, Katherine Bue and Millie Sagen. Walking in Recovery Video
SEAVIEW – A just-published 25-minute video tells the true stories of people living in Washington state, all of whom are recovering from serious mental health conditions. Forestry fun day
ELMA – From 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on May 15 a Forestry Fun Day is set at the Satsop Development Park, 100 Technology Lane in Elma. This is a cooperative event between Grays Harbor Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Department of Natural Resources, Grays Harbor College, and the WSU Extension office. Lunch will be provided. Find out what assistance programs might be available for small forest landowners as well as information on a variety of topics related to forest health, wildlife and tree vigor. The event will focus on hands-on teaching and is open to all ages, as activities for youth will be ongoing throughout the day. Youth under age 14 need to be accompanied by an adult. Advanced registration, received by April 30, is $10 per person or $15 per family. Registration at a later date will be $15 per person and $20 per family.
