OCEAN PARK – You better watch out, Santa Claus is coming to Ocean Park on Nov. 26. At 6:30 p.m., the Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the official lighting of the community tree at the Eagles on Bay Avenue. Singing of Christmas carols will be done by folks from Ocean Park area churches. Then Santa arrives at the Ocean Park fire station on Ridge Avenue at 7 p.m. Come visit with Santa, enjoy some hot chocolate, hot cider, cookies and other goodies, and don’t forget to bring your camera for a photo with Santa.
Studio tour
PENINSULA – Peninsula Arts Association invites all local residents and all Thanksgiving holiday visitors to attend the 3rd Annual PAA Studio Tour. Twenty-seven artists are featured on the tour, set for Nov. 26 and Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nineteen locations, from Chinook to Surfside, offer visitors a great way to kick off holiday shopping, meet artists where they work, introduce youngsters to the wide world of art, show off the beautiful peninsula or simply get people out of the house. Holiday gift fair
SEASIDE – Friday, Nov. 26 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Seaside Civic and Convention Center will host a holiday gift fair with more than 80 booths in this professional, juried show. Local artisans who will participate include Ruby Bellissino of Long Beach offering flatware jewelry and wire-wrapped stones; from Chinook will be Terry Branch with fused glass and PMC items and Debbie Pantana with stained glass and cranberry vine wreaths; Ocean Park is well represented with Janet Herring’s cranberry baskets, Hank Batten’s polished rocks and jewelry, Del Kurtz’ Shaker peg coat racks, Lisa Gillespie’s sand dollar ornaments and Carol and Ed Thompson’s prints on paper and canvas, oriental paintings and copper twisters. Redmen Hall anniversary
SKAMOKAWA – The public is invited to Redmen Hall for the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Friends of Skamokawa’s annual holiday open house and bazaar. Both floors will be chock full of beautiful one-of-a-kind items, along with historical displays. Festival of trees
SOUTH BEND – This year’s Tenth Annual Willapa Harbor Festival of Trees is slated for Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Willapa Harbor Community Center in South Bend. This event is sponsored by the Willapa Harbor Health Foundation, which funds improvements for the Alder House assisted-living center, special community-health information programs, hospital medical equipment, and scholarships for students committed to health-care related work in the local area. Highlighting the event will be the Christmas tree auction, a delicious dinner, and musical entertainment by the Aberdeen-based Backholm family. Once again this year the foundation is pleased to have Dewy Adair as the auctioneer and Steve Rogers as the master of ceremonies. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at Willapa Veterinary Services at 230 Ocean Avenue or by calling 942-2321; tickets can also be purchased at the door for $35. Previewing of the trees begins at 5 p.m., with champagne and a no-host bar. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. and the auction starts at 7 p.m.

Celebration of Lights auction
ILWACO – Ocean Beach Hospital Foundation’s Celebration of Lights, the annual live and silent auction that benefits patients and programs at Ocean Beach Hospital, will be Friday, Dec. 3 at the Long Beach Elks Lodge. The silent auction begins at 6 p.m., the live auction starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but the foundation requests guests bring a canned food item that will be donated to area food banks. Spiced cider, wine, hors d’oeuvres and festive live music from local musician Greg Parke will be part of this year’s holiday event. Auction items include original works and limited editions from local artists, a variety of gift certificates from merchants and restaurants, jewelry, custom quilts, home and garden items, gift baskets and decorated Christmas trees and wreaths. Remember the Magic
OCEAN PARK – Ocean Park Signs proudly presents the fourth edition of the Christmas lights and music program “Remember the Magic” at 29011 “H” Street in Ocean Park. (North of Joe Johns, and south of 295th on the ocean side.) The hour-long program plays three times every night from Nov. 29 through Dec. 26 starting at 5:30 p.m., and repeating until 8:30 p.m. Christmas Eve will run an additional show and stay on until 9:30 p.m. New this year are more lights and some new music. Listen from your car on our neighborhood broadcast station playing on 89.5 FM. The show is free to all. Donations for the South Pacific County Humane Society are greatly appreciated. Parking is limited, so share the ride with your neighbors, please be courteous with your headlights, and be aware of traffic. Come and watch the lights dance. ASTORIA – Bring a can of food or make a cash donation for free admission to the Columbia River Maritime Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 4 as part of community day at the museum. The day includes a variety of engaging activities for the whole family. Crafts will focus on a few of the diverse cultures that depended or worked on the Columbia River. LONG BEACH – The South Pacific County Humane Society’s pet pictures with Santa is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dennis Company in Long Beach. There is a $5 donation for the photo, plus there will be refreshments! In addition if you wish you can schedule a personal 15-minute portrait sitting with you and your pet. Clamming
PENINSULA – A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Dec. 4 and Dec. 5, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Low tides adjusted for Pacific beaches those days are as follows: Saturday, Dec. 4, 6:36 p.m. -1.2; and Sunday, Dec. 5, 7:22 p.m. -1.2. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.
Gift of memories
ILWACO and OYSTERVILLE – The Bayside Singers will present a holiday concert, “A Gift of Memories,” on Sunday Dec. 5 at two different venues. One performance will be at 2 p.m. at the Inn at Harbour Village in Ilwaco and the second will be 5 p.m. at the Oysterville Church. Director Sandy Nielson solicited recollections of past Christmases and Hanukkahs from Peninsula residents and paired them with seasonal music. Featured soloist will be soprano Brier Gregory and Barbara Poulshock will be at the piano. There is no admission charge but donations for the food bank are encouraged.
Chorale Christmas concert
RAYMOND – Thirty-five singers will join their voices for a wide variety of Christmas music at the Willapa Harbor Chorale Christmas concert set for 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 5 at the historic Raymond Theater. Soloists include Virginia Basil, Alan Bevington, Kathy Holland, Gerald Martin and Linda Snodgrass. Rick Gauger directs the chorale; Beth Ginther and Kathy Holland accompany the singers with additional support from flutists Connie Bevington and Ginther. Farmers Market volunteers
LONG BEACH – The Columbia-Pacific Farmers’ Market will get off the ground in May 2011. An authentic farmers’ market, this event will be exclusively a food market dedicated to showcasing the spectacular eats of the Columbia-Pacific region and to supporting and celebrating the hardworking people who bring those foods to our community. The market will include 20 or so farmers, ranchers, fishers, growers, and package food producers, and will also feature entertainment and games. It will be a place to meet your neighbor every Friday afternoon/evening and have fun! Many volunteers will be needed each week from noon until 7:30 p.m., mid-May through September.
