PACIFIC COUNTY – United Way is collecting coats, blankets and shoes, particularly new children’s tennis shoes for distribution to needy children in Pacific County. CATHLAMET – Kenzie Abbott, a 16-year-old from Cathlamet, has seizures and is putting together a cookbook to help raise money for a service dog that can detect and warn her and people around her before she has a seizure. Friday, Nov. 5Clamming

PENINSULA – A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Low tides adjusted for Pacific beaches those days are as follows: Friday, Nov. 5, 7:47 p.m. -1.3 and Saturday, Nov. 6, 8:34 p.m. -1.5. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

Auction Gala

ILWACO – On Nov. 6, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum on Lake Street in Ilwaco will host an auction of more than 50 artworks to benefit the museum’s exhibition programs. A diverse group of regional artists have created 6×6-inch masterpieces, which will be on display in the museum lobby from Oct. 23 until the Auction Gala on Nov. 6. Concert/Fisher Poet

SKAMOKAWA – Alexa Wiley, regional singer and songwriter, and Dave Densmore, well-known fisher poet, will perform at Redmen Hall/River Life Interpretive Center to raise funds for Friends of Skamokawa. Their performance, “For Love of Fish,” will be on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The concert is offered in conjunction with a photography exhibit by David Myers, formerly of Eden Valley, and Judy Vandermaten of Cathlamet. Both photographers will speak about their exhibit at the concert and the audience will have the opportunity to view their photographs following the concert and visit with the artists. CAPE D – On Sunday, Nov. 14, singer Carl Allen will present “Woody Guthrie sings Journey Songs: Immigrants, Hobos and Orphans” beginning at 3 p.m. at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center at Cape Disappointment State Park in Ilwaco. Admission to the park for adults is $5 and includes the concert. The musical performance is designed to compliment a Smithsonian exhibit at Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum which shows how our evolving mobility changed a young nation and how transportation made us grow. OCEAN PARK – You better watch out, Santa Claus is coming to Ocean Park on Nov. 26. At 6:30 p.m., the Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the official lighting of the community tree at the Eagles on Bay Avenue. Christmas carols will be sung by students from Ocean Park Elementary. Redmen Hall anniversary

SKAMOKAWA – The public is invited to Redmen Hall for the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Friends of Skamokawa’s annual holiday open house and bazaar. Both floors will be chock full of beautiful one-of-a-kind items, along with historical displays. PENINSULA – The annual holiday bed and breakfast open house event is set for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 11 and Dec. 12, with Boreas Bed and Breakfast, China Beach Retreat, A Rendezvous Place and the Shelburne Inn. Come tour these local bed and breakfast facilities and sample their warm hospitality. Charitable donations of one canned food item per party will be accepted and distributed to a local food bank.
