LONG BEACH – The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Peninsula Bunco Club and the Chautauqua Lodge are hosting the Second Annual Bunco for Breast Cancer at 6 p.m., on Saturday, June 12 at the Chautauqua Lodge. Donations for game prizes, a silent auction and raffle drawings are welcome. Come and enjoy playing Bunco to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s efforts to provide free mammograms, other cancer screening, and breast cancer research. ILWACO – Another season of the Waikiki Beach Concert Series opens on June 12 at 2 p.m., at Cape Disappointment State Park. The first performers are a group named “Trashcan Joe,” who play original old-timey jazz, ragtime and blues on traditional as well as home-made instruments such as the Trashcanjo, washboard, tuborgan and many more. This concert is free and one you don’t want to miss.
Auto Show ‘N Shine
OCEAN PARK – From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on June 12, Ocean Park Lutheran Church at 24002 “U” Street is hosting their Third Annual Auto Show ‘N Shine car show to benefit the Community Table. The Community Table is a ministry of Ocean Park Lutheran Church, Ocean Park Methodist Church and Peninsula Baptist Church. Free, hot meals are prepared and offered every Monday. This car show is open to the public. All are invited, young and old. There is a $2 entry fee for those wishing to enter their vehicle. All motorized vehicles are welcome. There will be prizes, games, barbecued hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, and more. Come bring the family, have fun and support a worthy cause.
Beach to chowder
LONG BEACH – The 33rd annual Beach-to-Chowder Run/Walk is June 12 near the arch on the Bolstad approach. The event includes a half-marathon (13.2 miles), a 5K or 10K run or walk. Runners will compete in one of eight age group divisions. Registration will be taken from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 11 and from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 12 at the Long Beach train depot (3rd and Pacific N.). All registered participants will receive a free ticket to the chowder lunch at Funland field behind the police station. The half-marathon starts at 9 a.m., all other races start at 10 a.m. Course closes at noon. Call 642-2400 for more information.
Bingo!
LONG BEACH – The Elks has bingo every Sunday, Monday and Wednesday beginning at 12:30 p.m., the doors open at noon. The 15-game program includes a Texas blackout and a progressive $250 blackout. Snacks and pull-tabs are available. The public is welcome. Elks bingo proceeds fund the Washington State Tall Elks Therapy program.
SummerFest events
LONG BEACH – SummerFest events, hosted by the city of Long Beach, continue all weekend long. There will be horse and wagon rides, face painting as well as kids games and crafts available for free. Music by Greg Parke will can be enjoyed at the gazebo from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come downtown and have some fun.

Orchid Society meeting
ASTORIA – This month Dick Van Ingen, an orchid enthusiast for the last 30 years who has traveled extensively in South America, Europe, New Zealand and Australia in search of orchids in the wild, will be the guest speaker at the Orchid Society meeting at 2 p.m., June 13 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Monday, June 14Flag disposal
ILWACO – At 5 p.m. on Flag Day, Monday, June 14, at the River City School and Don R. Grable American Legion Post No. 48 in Ilwaco, American Legion members will perform the ceremony for the disposal of unserviceable flags. The public is invited to the ceremony with refreshments to be served afterwards. Any members of the public who have worn and faded flags that should be retired with respect may bring their flags to the ceremony, or prior to that ceremony take them to the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum on Lake Street in Ilwaco, any fire hall or to the Long Beach City Hall. Flag/Plaque Dedication
SURFSIDE – At 11 a.m., on Monday, June 14, at 306th and “I” Street in Surfside Estates, the community of Surfside will honor veterans with a ceremony and plaque that dedicates a new lighted American and MIA flag to honor our veterans. The American and MIA flag will be presented by the local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and a Coast Guard Color Guard that will raise the colors up the staff. Pastor Marty Cole of Ocean Park Community Church will provide the invocation. Music will be provided by Celsa Johnson and Blake Kukula. Refreshments will be served at the site following the ceremony. This community project includes an information kiosk, picnic table and landscaping with decorative post lamps, and a pedestrian bridge that crosses the canal with a trail to the beach. Off street parking is provided on both sides of the canal. Everyone is invited to attend and share in honoring our veterans. Flag retirement

OCEAN PARK – North Peninsula Improvement Association (NPIA) is holding their annual meeting starting at 6 p.m., on Monday, June 14, at the Ocean Park fire hall. The purpose of this meeting is to elect a board of directors and officers. Members must have their annual dues of $10 paid up to date in order to vote. Membership is open to owners of property located north of Cranberry Road. NPIA has initiated community improvements and projects including flood control, junk car removal, illegally stored RVs and trailer removal, the North Beach Water District and the Beach To Bay Trail. Finn Fest Music
NASELLE – The Finnish-American Folk Festival of Naselle is hosting two wonderful musicians from Finland – Pekka Pentikkainen and Perttu Paappanen, for a pre-festival concert on June 22, at 7 p.m., at Johnson Park in Rosburg. Pekka plays two-row and chromatic accordion, while Perttu plays both accordion and fiddle. Both musicians play minuets, polskas, schottisches, waltzes and polkas as well as world music. Both also arrange and compose the music they play. Admission is free but donations are gladly accepted. Visitors are invited to bring socks so they can join in on dancing for some part of the evening, a “sock hop” to the lively music. A few feet beyond mile marker 15 east of Naselle on Highway 4, at the junction with Pillar Rock Road, take the driveway up the hill to the park, opposite Rosburg store.
Horseback ride
MENLO – The Willapa Hills Chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington are sponsoring a fun ride on June 26 on Oxbow Road out of Menlo. Watch for the sign about a mile down Oxbow Road. The first rider out is at 10 a.m., last rider out at 11 a.m. The cost is $12 per person, $6 for those 18 years old and younger, and includes the ride, lunch and a chance at a great prize. Music in the Gardens
PENINSULA – The Water Music Festival here on the Long Beach Peninsula, offers its annual Music in the Gardens event on Saturday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy an opportunity to savor the scenery and lend an ear to fine music, as you visit nine private gardens – a lavender farm, several whimsical gardens and some with spectacular views. You’ll hear recordings by fine musicians who will perform at the upcoming Water Music Festival Oct. 15 through Oct. 17, as well as live performances at several of the gardens.
