Until Dec. 18, drop off new, unwrapped toys at Naselle High School, All Seasons Kidstuff in Chinook, Bank of Pacific in Ilwaco, the Chinook Observer, Bank of the Pacific, Dennis Company, KeyBank and Great Northwest Federal Credit Union in Long Beach, Jimella’s Seafood Market in Klipsan, and Bank of the Pacific and Great Northwest Federal Credit Union in Ocean Park. All donations will be kept locally. The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity and donations are tax deductible. Food bank needs
OCEAN PARK – The Ocean Park Food Bank is collecting holiday foods such as evaporated milk, canned fruit, corn and other similar holiday items so they can provide special meal products for Christmas. Bird count
PACIFIC COUNTY – The Christmas Bird Count is from dawn to dusk on Saturday, Dec. 19. All are invited to participate, from feeder watchers to those who are assigned a group to count in the field. Bring your binoculars, boots, warm clothes and a lunch. After the count, all participants are invited to the Hunters Inn on Highway 4 at the east end of Naselle for a no-host dinner and compilation of results. Remember the Magic
OCEAN PARK – The third annual “Remember the Magic” holiday light show continues throughout the month at Bob and Mary Peterson’s Ocean Park home. From 5 p.m. to around 8 p.m., stop by to watch hundreds of Christmas lights twinkle as they are synchronized to classic holiday songs and some modern hits from Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The show may run longer on the nights closest to Christmas. Drive to 29011 H Street in Ocean Park (north of Joe Johns and south of 295th on the ocean side). Pull into the driveway and tune your car radio to 89.5 FM to enjoy music from the warmth of your car. This is a free event that collects donations for the South Pacific County Humane Society, “Remember the Magic” will have nightly shows through Dec. 26.

LONG BEACH – The city of Long Beach is hosting a meeting on their Water Use Efficiency Plan and invite customers to provide input from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 28 at Long Beach City Hall, 115 Bolstad Avenue West. Old-Time Music
RAYMOND – On Dec. 29, all ages are invited to Raymond Timberland Library from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., for an old-time music show. Join in the merriment as Rick Meyers shows how the pioneers creatively used folk instruments and household items to make music. Instruments used in the show include the musical saw, spoons, mouth harp, limberjack, washboard and washtub as well as the banjo, guitar, autoharp and ukulele. For more information call 942-2408.
Clamming
PENINSULA – A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Dec. 31 through Jan. 2, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Low tides adjusted for Pacific beaches those days are as follows: Thursday, Dec. 31, 7:29 p.m. -1.4; Friday, Jan. 1, 8:13 p.m. -1.5; Saturday, Jan. 2, 8:56 p.m. -1.4. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

ASTORIA – Stephanie’s Cabin in Astoria at 12 W. Marine Drive will host the ENCORE (Exploring New Concepts of Retirement Education) lunch bunch on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 12:30 p.m. Members are encouraged to wear their nametags and to bring guests and will be seated in the back room overlooking the Columbia River. KLIPSAN – Saturday, Jan. 30, the Peninsula Senior Activity Center is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., welcoming the representatives from various service organizations serving the Peninsula. This will be a wonderful opportunity to familiarize yourself with the different agencies that provide services to our Peninsula.
