PENINSULA – Harbors Home Health and Hospice provides nail and foot care by appointment for disabled and senior persons, who are unable to complete their own nail care. Appointments are made in Long Beach the first Wednesday of each month and in Ocean Park the second Wednesday every other month. There is a $25 fee. Medicare and most insurance do not cover nail care. Clamming

PENINSULA – A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Wednesday, Dec. 2, and Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Low tides for Pacific beaches those days are as follows: Wednesday, Dec. 2, 7:41 p.m. -1.3; Friday, Dec. 4, 9:14 p.m. -1.3; Saturday, Dec. 5, 10:01 p.m. -1.1. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

Messiah Sing Along

Boat parade/Christmas tree

ILWACO – Ilwaco is holding their annual lighted boat parade and lighting of the crab pot Christmas tree on Saturday, Dec. 5. The Crab Pot Tree lighting will be at 5 p.m. with some caroling, and at 6 p.m., the Ilwaco Lighted Boat Parade to Station Cape Disappointment and back gets underway. Holiday bazaar

NASELLE – Martha Circle from Naselle Congregational Church of Christ is holding a holiday bazaar from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 5. Monday, Dec. 7Hazard sirens testing

SOUTH BEND – The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency (PCEMA) will test the All Hazard Alert Broadcast (AHAB) sirens on Monday, Dec. 7, at noon. The AHAB sirens will sound the Westminster chimes for 10 seconds followed by a 15-second verbal message. The PCEMA has requested assistance from Pacific County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services volunteers in tracking the success of the test. Remember the Magic

OCEAN PARK – The third annual “Remember the Magic” holiday light show continues throughout the month at Bob and Mary Peterson’s Ocean Park home. From 5 p.m. to around 8 p.m., stop by to watch hundreds of Christmas lights twinkle as they are synchronized to classic holiday songs and some modern hits from Trans-Siberian Orchestra. The show may run longer on the nights closest to Christmas. Drive to 29011 H Street in Ocean Park (north of Joe Johns and south of 295th on the ocean side). Pull into the driveway and tune your car radio to 89.5 FM to enjoy music from the warmth of your car. This is a free event that collects donations for the South Pacific County Humane Society, “Remember the Magic” will have nightly shows through Dec. 26.

Holiday Book Sale

LONG BEACH – On Saturday, Dec. 12, from noon to 3 p.m., six Peninsula authors will be meeting and greeting the public at a holiday book sale at Long Beach Coffee Roasters, 810 Pacific Highway. Featured authors and their latest books include Jan Bono, Robert Brake, Birdie Etchinson, Patty Hardin, Lorrie Haight and Barbara Haines Howett. Books make great gifts, and a locally written book, specially autographed by the author, is a wonderful gift for anyone.

Seasonal concert

OYSTERVILLE – The historic Oysterville Church, decorated for the holidays, will be the setting for “Sounds of the Season,” a concert set to begin at 3 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 12. Performing artists include Cheri Walker on harp; singers Christl and Andrea Mack, Anja and Andrea Patten, and Micheal Campellone and the Bayside Singers, directed by Sandi Nielson. The varied program will feature music for Hannukkah, Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, Weinachts favorites from Germany and a Christmas sing-along. Forestry workshop

YELM – On Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Northwest Certified Forestry will host a one-day workshop for small woodland owners on ‘How to Develop a Forest Stewardship Plan’ for their property. Workshop topics will include: developing goals and objectives for your forest, mapping forest resources, defining and characterizing forest stands, collecting and recording forest inventory data, resources for developing a plan, developing a forest monitoring plan, developing an activity schedule, recording forest management activities, and more. DAR meeting

Tuba Christmas Concert

ILWACO – If you relish the idea of dressing casually to have some real fun while listening to four exceptionally-talented tuba players play traditional and non-traditional ditties, you’ll want to show up at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 13. Often tubas are considered as ungainly giants at the rear of bands, playing monotonous low tones to make other instruments sound better. But the Astoria Tuba Quartet embraces a range of horns that produce a rich deep sound that will warm and brighten a cool winter’s day for all who attend. All members of the quartet perform in notable bands, orchestras, and symphonies and are involved in a myriad of other musical activities.
