KLIPSAN – The Senior Center is holding a fundraising dinner open to the community on Oct. 15 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The main entrée is Yankee pot roast and it includes all the trimmings, plus dessert and a beverage. Friday, Oct. 16Clamming
PENINSULA – A razor clam dig is tentatively scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Friday, Oct. 16 through Sunday, Oct. 18, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Low tides adjusted for Pacific beaches those days are as follows: Friday, Oct. 16, 7:02 p.m. -0.7; Saturday, Oct. 17, 7:48 p.m. -0.8; Sunday, Oct. 18, 8:32 p.m. -1.0. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.
Water Music Festival
PENINSULA – The Water Music Festival kicks off at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 16 with a concert at Hilltop Auditorium by Sans Souci, a chamber ensemble from Seattle. Tickets are $20. On Saturday, Oct. 17 at 10 a.m., at the Inn at Harbour Village, you are sure to enjoy Kim Angelis and the Bohemians, gypsy violin and ensemble. Tickets are free. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, at Oysterville Church, the Rose City Mixed Quarter, an a capella group, performs. Tickets are $15. Then on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., at Hilltop Auditorium, don’t miss Alpin Hong, a modern classic pianist. Tickets for his performance are $25 each. A special artists’ reception begins at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Pelicano Restaurant in Ilwaco where you will meet all of the artists from the weekend concerts. Tickets for the reception are $12 and include champagne or other beverages, chocolate desserts and other light fare. And finally on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m., at Hilltop Auditorium, Augustana Jazz Quarter will perform. This group is made up of four of the Northwest’s best jazz musicians. Tickets are just $15. ILWACO – Living well with chronic conditions is a workshop to help lighten your load through self-management. This is a free six-week workshop that runs once a week on Fridays through Nov. 6, at Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco. If you have a chronic condition and you’d like to improve your healthful behaviors, and health status this workshop can help. This workshop covers better breathing techniques, muscle relaxation, fatigue management, healthy eating, depression management, exercise, how to work with your health care provider and lots more. Women’s Health Center open house
ILWACO – Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics will host an open house at the new Women’s Health Center, from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 16. Refreshments will be served and the staff will be available to answer questions and give tours. The first of its kind in Pacific County, the center will focus on the unique healthcare needs of women. It is staffed entirely by women. Karla Reinhart, ARNP, FNP-C, will be the center’s primary care provider. The center’s expanded services will include colposcopy, mammography and breast health, bone density testing for osteoporosis, birth control, bladder and menopause related concerns, and nutrition. CATHLAMET – The Julia Butler Hansen Heritage Center is hosting “Talking History” through October. Local residents Dory Hicks and Carol Cothren will share their stories and memories about family camps and more, information sure to provide a unique insight into our past. Flu/Pneumonia vaccine
LONG BEACH – Pacific County Health Department is conducting a flu shot clinic on Oct. 19 at 7013 Sandridge Road in the new south county administrative building. This is for the seasonal flu and pneumonia vaccine only and will be administered by appointment only. Pneumonia vaccines are available for those who have not received the vaccine prior to their 65th birthday and/or a booster after age 65. The county will bill Medicare and Medicaid, bring copies of all insurance cards.

GRAYS RIVER – The annual luncheon and bazaar, sponsored by the women of the Friendship Circle of Grays River United Methodist Church at 3624 Highway 4 West in Grays River, will be held for two days this year. On Friday, Oct. 23, the hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the traditional stew, bread, coffee, juice and desserts being served all day. On Saturday, Oct. 24, soup, biscuits, dessert, and coffee or juice will be served during the sale hours of 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. On both days new, second-hand, and handcrafted items will be for sale. Oktoberfest
CHINOOK – Friends of Chinook School are again hosting “Oktoberfest” Chinook-style on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the historic Chinook School on Highway 101. There will be a dinner and silent auction, with a live auction at 8 p.m. Live music will be performed by the Beach Buddies. All proceeds benefit the restoration of the Chinook school and gym. ILWACO – The Friends of Willapa National Wildlife Refuge invite the public to an exciting evening of Spanish wine, food, Latin dancing and fun. Sea Shanty Camp
CHINOOK – On Saturday, Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sea Shanty Camp of the Columbia will be the theme of a one-day camp offered by Hank Cramer, Mary Garvey, Matt Moeller and other instructors for a full-day immersion into maritime music. Attend one or all sessions for free in the riverfront theater at Fort Columbia State Park near Chinook. Box lunches are available with pre-registration. Lighthouses & Life Saving
CAPE D – On Sunday, Oct. 25 starting at 1 p.m., there will be a program on the North Head Lighthouse Program by Bill Hanable, historian and author of “Lighthouses and Life Saving on Washington’s Outer Coast.” Hanable will present a slide show at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and be available for a book signing after the program.

Bob Milne to perform
LONG BEACH – The very talented pianist Bob Milne will perform at a special benefit for the World Kite Museum on Saturday, Nov. 7 beginning at 3 p.m. Milne plays and knows more about the piano and playing boogie woogie and ragtime music than most anyone you will hear. Tickets are $35 and are available at local branches of The Bank of the Pacific or at the World Kite Museum.
Parenting Workshop
LONG BEACH – Long Beach Elementary is hosting an interactive parenting workshop entitled, “Guiding Good Choices” on Tuesday evenings from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., beginning Nov. 10 and running through Dec. 8. Dinner and childcare will be provided. Guiding Good Choices will give families the skills to work together and take action to help prevent children from destructive decisions and other problem behaviors. Parents will learn to set clear family guidelines, skills to strengthen their relationship with their child and how to help the child develop healthy behaviors.
