Relay For Life volunteers will serve dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Relay For Life of Long Beach. ILWACO – A disaster relief truck will be accepting donations of clean furniture, appliances and other household items on June 18 at the Green Dragonfly at 107 1/2 Lake Street in Ilwaco. Any usable donated items will be delivered to disaster victims who need assistance.

ILWACO – Hilltop Bowl is hosting several bowling fundraisers to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Long Beach. Bowling times are available at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 19, Monday, June 22 and Wednesday, July 15; and at noon on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 19. The cost is $12 per person for two games and shoe rental. Hilltop will donate 50 percent of the money taken in. People of any age are welcome, early sign-ups and walk-ins are welcome. AARP Driving class
KLIPSAN BEACH – There will be a driver-safety class from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, sponsored by the Peninsula Senior Activity Center in Klipsan. The mature driver class, held at 21063 Pacific Hwy in Klipsan Beach, consists of two four-hour sessions on two separate days and covers a wide range of driving situations. There are no tests. This interactive workshop provides hands-on practical tools including dementia basics, communication skills, deciphering and coping with challenging behaviors, planning for the future, home safety, self-care for the caregiver and more. SummerFest
LONG BEACH – The city of Long Beach hosts free horse and wagon rides, face painting, kids games, clowns and more each weekend through Labor Day. This weekend there will be a sidewalk chalk art contest and music by the band Locust Street Taxi Band. Come downtown and have some fun!
Plant Clinic
LONG BEACH – Pacific County Master Gardeners will host a Plant Clinic at Dennis Company in Long Beach on June 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Bring your garden questions and plant samples to the clinic for help. Also, get information on how to produce great compost from kitchen scraps and yard waste (and put less in your garbage cans). Composters will be available to purchase for $30. These are a great bargain!

NW Garlic Festival
OCEAN PARK – The 28th Annual Northwest Garlic Festival sponsored by the Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce is June 20 and 21. This year the event will be held on Wilson Field, also known as the Beach Barons Rod Run Field. This will allow off-street parking and more space for the vendors and entertainment. Besides the garlic crafts and food, there will also be local artists, crafters and entrepreneurs at our event. The entertainment this year again is top notch! Vietnam Sojourns
SKAMOKAWA – An exhibit of photos titled, ‘Vietnam Sojourns’ is now on display at Redmen Hall in Skamokawa on SR-4. The photographers traveled to Vietnam to participate in Project Uplift, a non-profit organization raising money to rebuild schools in Vietnam. Judy Vander Maten, Rob Kirschner, Chris Roalsvig and Paul Fardig traveled throughout the country for several weeks, meeting local residents, learning local customs and photographing images of their experiences. ILWACO – The public is invited to come to PACE Senior Nutrition Center at 152 First Avenue North in Ilwaco from noon to 3 p.m. on Fathers Day, June 21. ASTORIA – The newly-formed Lower Columbia River Chapter of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association (CPOA) is seeking new members. CAPE D – The Waikiki Beach Concert Series continues on Saturday, June 27 at 2 p.m. in the amphitheater overlooking Waikiki Beach. PENINSULA – From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 27, enjoy “Music in the Gardens,” a full day of touring eight lovely gardens on the Long Beach Peninsula. Treat yourself to a visual feast! View a variety of gardens on the Peninsula and the showcase of private gardens, the gardens of Discovery Heights and Coastal Ridge and more. There will be intermittent live music in some of the gardens. Tickets are $15 and will be available a week before the tour at the Basket Case at 12106 Sandridge Road, and on the day of the tour at the English Nursery and Ocean Park Garden Art.
Summer Youth Adventure
PENINSULA – Do you like adventure? Are you a student currently in the fifth or sixth grade? If so, then the Summer Youth Adventure Program is for you! Youth entering or currently in the fifth or sixth grades can take part in a four-week camp, beginning July 7 through July 31. Groups will meet one day a week from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enrollment is limited. Each week, experienced educators from Pacific County Health and Human Services will lead the youth on outdoor adventures including: hiking, rock climbing, mountain bike riding and archery. Foot clinic
KLIPSAN – The Foot Clinic of Harbors Home Health and Hospice is offering a foot clinic at the Peninsula Senior Activity Center on Wednesday, July 8 and additional clinics will be held every other month. This service is designed for people who have difficulty in taking care of their own feet and are free from complicating health conditions. Foot care provided includes an inspection of your feet, nail trimming and soft buffing of calluses by a registered nurse or CNA under the direction of an RN. There is a $25 fee due at the time of service. An appointment is required. Call 642-3623 to schedule an appointment.
Apply to attend Camp Victory
PENINSULA – Camp Victory is accepting applications for the four-day recreational camp held in October each year. This program is for girls from Pacific and Grays Harbor counties who have been sexually abused and is free of charge thanks to outstanding support provided by our community. Girls are matched one-on-one with carefully screened, trained adult workers. Camp activities which include campfires, tie-dyeing shirts, crafts, music, games, kites, beach, play and sharing wonderful meals and take place in a secluded, safe environment on the Long Beach Peninsula. If you would like to be involved in providing this safe, nurturing environment for children and young adults, you may by the perfect candidate for Camp Victory. Adults receive 30 to 40 hours of training prior to their actual camp experience on subjects such as sexual abuse and prevention, child development, communication skills and camp activities. All adults who apply for this important job are carefully screened with references and criminal histories checked. In addition to the volunteers mentioned above Camp Victory greatly benefits from the assistance of “Camp Angels” – men and women who provide help with setup, cleanup and meal preparation throughout the weekend, providing a much needed support team for the entire camp. A get-acquainted meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23 at 7 p.m. at the home of Rosemary Hallin.
