Shoalwater Birders

    OCEAN PARK The Shoalwater Birders meet Wednesday July 10, at 7 p.m., in the meeting room of the Ocean Park Library, 1308 256th Place. Local birder Suzy Whittey will present a program on still birding with pictures of local birds.  Following her presentation the video Crash: the Tale of Two Species will be shown. Clowning & Mime

    OCEAN PARK and NASELLE From     11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., on July 10, all ages are invited to Ocean Park Timberland Library for the program, Chris Fascione Stories, Clowning & Mime. He will present the same program from    2 p.m. to 3 p.m., July 10 at Naselle Timberland Library. Fascione brings childrens book characters to life through storytelling, mime, clowning and a dash of juggling in his high-energy, participatory show, Funny Folktales Unearthed. Summer lunch program

    PENINSULA Ocean Beach School District offers a summer feeding program Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., at the following locations: Ocean Park Elementary, Culbertson Park in Long Beach and at the Ilwaco City Park. The program is open to any child, regardless of income status, up to the age of 18. Remember, due to regulations, the lunch must be eaten by the kids at the site (lunches cannot be taken with them nor can they be given to adult).

Bowling Assn meeting

    ILWACO There will be a meeting of the Greater North Peninsula United States Bowling Conference beginning at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, July 10 at Hilltop Bowl in Ilwaco. All are welcome to attend.

Neptune Classic Movies

    LONG BEACH The Neptune Twin Cinemas offers family and classic movies with no charge for admission, subject to capacity. All family and classic shows begin at 1 p.m. The movie on July 10 is Brannigan, starring John Wayne and Richard Attenborough. 1975. 112 min.

Transit Board Meeting

    SOUTH BEND The Pacific Transit Authority Board will hold its regular quarterly board meeting on Thursday, July 11. The meeting place has been changed and will be held at the Pacific County Commissioners Meeting Room at 1216 W. Robert Bush Dr., South Bend, Washington at 10:30 a.m. A public hearing will be held to hear comments on the adoption of the Seven-Year Transit Development Plan 2013-2108. The public is invited to come and be heard.

Brownsmead Flats

    ILWACO Ilwaco Timberland Library presents folk tunes and songs with  Brownsmead Flats, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., July 11 for all ages. Brownsmead Flats takes the stage with both traditional and original tunes and songs, often filled with humor. The Astoria-based quintet entertains with guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin and great vocal harmonies. For more information call 642-3908.

One Man Band

    RAYMOND From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., on July 11, all ages are invited to Raymond Timberland Library to hear Eric Haines a one man band. Haines is a zany character a comedian, juggler, puppeteer and one-man band who acts out ideas of trying new things without fear and solving problems creatively. Chronic Conditions

    ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital in collaboration with the Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) has scheduled a free workshop open to the public: Living Well With Chronic Conditions, to be held one day a week, Thursdays, (2.5 hours) for six consecutive weeks, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning Thursday July 11 and continuing July 18, 25, Aug. 1, 8 and 15 at the Ocean Beach Hospital Meeting Room, 174 1st Avenue N. in Ilwaco. Two specifically trained leaders will facilitate the workshop. All of the materials individuals will be using were developed by Stanford Universitys Chronic Disease-Self Management Program. This program is designed to help anyone who suffers from a chronic condition, including diabetes, asthma, heart disease, chronic pain, arthritis, and hypertension just to name a few; to lessen their stress and frustration, manage symptoms, and deal with fatigue. The goal of the program is to help you live a healthy life with your chronic conditions by managing your symptoms. Those who are caring for someone with a chronic condition are also encouraged to attend. Each participant will have access to a Living Well With Chronic Conditions book. The meeting site is accessible to persons with disabilities. Wildwood Rally

    ROSBURG The Pacific County Chapter of the ABATE club is holding the fifth annual Wildwood Rally from July 12 through July 14 at the Deep River Campground at 9 Wainamo Road in Rosburg. The Wizard of Oz

    CHINOOK  Peninsula Association of Performing Artists (PAPA) will perform The Wizard of Oz at their theater at Fort Columbia State Park in Chinook. Directed by Barbara Poulshock, The Wizard of Oz will be performed on the weekends opening on Friday, July 12 and closing on Sunday, Aug. 4.  Friday and Saturdays performances will be at 7 p.m., and Sundays performance will be a 3 p.m., matinee. Tickets are priced at $17 for adults, $5 for children and are available at Okies in Ocean Park, and Stormin Normans in Long Beach. Tickets can also be purchased on line at www.papatheatre.org.

125 Years of Rail

    ILWACO  The exhibit From the Water to the Woods: 125 Years of Rail is on view at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum at 115 SE Lake Street in Ilwaco. On July 19, 1888, the Ilwaco Railway & Navigation Company held a grand celebration commemorating the completion of its line from Ilwaco to Long Beach. To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Clamshell Railroad the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum has organized this exhibit. The exhibition is on view through Sept. 1. Community fun night

    OCEAN PARK  Ocean Park Lutheran Church at 24002 U Street invites everyone to a community fun night on Saturday, July 13, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come one and come all to an evening of food, fun and fellowship. Chinook Tribal meeting

Gallery 504 North

    LONG BEACH Judy Leonard of Ocean Park is the featured artist for the July open house at Gallery 504 North in Long Beach, located in the Peninsula Performing Arts Center at 504 North Pacific. There will be an open house on July 13 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., then the show will run from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays for the rest of the month. Hope in Hard Times

    NASELLE Join the Appelo Archives Center for Hope in Hard Times: Washington during the Great Depression, opening July 14 and running through Oct. 5. This exhibit is open from   10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and focuses on the adversity and triumph of everyday Americans, comparing the struggles of the 1930s with those faced today. The exhibit is built around 10 interpretive panels featuring stories, photographs and artwork from Washingtons Depression -era past. Augmenting these traveling panels will be a variety of unique programs produced locally for the Naselle community, including the exhibit opening reception on July 14, film documentaries about the era, a film festival and a program that will display and share visitors own family stories. Youth Art Exhibit & Sale

    SKAMOKAWA Redmen Hall and the Rock n Roll Congress are hosting a Wahkiakum County Youth Art Exhibit and Sale until Sunday, July 14. The Rock n Roll Congress works to foster art, music, and self expression in our youth community. They are a grass roots organization that is looking forward to your support and enjoyment of their first art exhibit. Orchid Society meeting

    ASTORIA The July meeting of the Sunset Empire Orchid Society will be held at 2 p.m., on Sunday, July 14 at First Lutheran Church, 725 33rd Street in Astoria. The speaker will be Dick Van Ingen with the program, Orchid Conservation Alliance Trip to Equator.  As a member of the Orchid Conservation Society, Dick travels extensively to observe orchids in the wild to further the societys conservation goal.     OYSTERVILLE The very popular Vespers programs return to the Oysterville Church on July 14 at 3 p.m. Pastor Adrienne Strehlow of the Ocean Park Lutheran Church will lead services. The wonderful Killingsworth family musicians will provide the music. Sandy Nielson will play the pump organ. The Oysterville moment will be provided by Sydney Stevens. Barn wanted

    PENINSULA  Have you got a barn that is in need of a small family of cats to keep your unwanted critter population under control? Eight nice semi-feral cats need to be relocated as soon as possible. They will be spayed/neutered and will be delivered. Head Start preschool

    LONG BEACH Head Start preschool is now enrolling for the 2013-14 school year. Beginning Sept. 19, classes will be held for four days a week, for three and a half hours a day. One Act Plays

    ILWACO Auditions for the One Act Play festival will be held on Tuesday, July 16 and Wednesday, July 17 at 6:30 p. m. at the River City Playhouse at 127 Lake Street SE in Ilwaco.     OCEAN PARK The next Diabetes Support Group is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., July 17 in the cafeteria at Ocean Beach Hospital. The theme is Dont Get Burned: A BBQ Demonstration with Edibles, and will be presented by Deanna Duret, MA/Rd/Ld, CDE.  Attendees who want to share a dish are welcome to bring a sample along with the receipt. L/H Raffle

    ILWACO The Keepers of the North Head Lighthouse are sponsoring a benefit raffle with proceeds to be used to help restore the lighthouse. A total of 1,000 raffle tickets for five prizes are available for purchase. First prize is a two-night stay for six people at the North Head Lighthouse Keepers Home, plus one catered gourmet dinner for six and a continental breakfast for six; second prize is framed original artwork of the North Head Lighthouse by local artist Don Nisbett. Tickets are $5 each to anyone 18 years of age or older, and the drawing will be on Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. at the Picture Attic in Long Beach. Winners need not be present. Tickets can be purchased at the Cape Disappointment State Park store in the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center and in the store in the North Head lighthouse grounds at the Park, at the Cape D Café (Serious Pizza), at Adelaides Coffee in Ocean Park, the Picture Attic and Campiche Studios in Long Beach, the Shoalwater Cove Gallery in Ilwaco, and at the Legion booth at every other Saturday Market in Ilwaco. Clamshell Railroad Days

    ILWACO Commemorating the 125th anniversary of the Ilwaco Railway and Navigation Companys first run from Ilwaco to Long Beach on July 19, 1888, the first run celebration will be at the Long Beach Depot from noon to    5 p.m., on Friday, July 19, at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. There will be a special exhibition of the Clamshell Railroad driving tour, along with a program commencing at 1.30 p.m. by the Bayside Singers and the Shoalwater Storytellers. Cupcakes will be served at     1 p.m. On Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, join the fun and celebrate Clamshell Railroad Days 2013 with expanded events and old favorites. The $5 fee includes a souvenir pin and museum entrance for two days, free for kids under age 12.  On Saturday doors open at          10 a.m., with great model train layouts hosted by the Peninsula Model Railroad Club. Guests will include the Mount Rainer N-scale club, the Portland Cascade-Z scale club, and Dean and Donna Meads fantastic Lego train among others. The exhibition From the Water to the Woods will serve as a base for the updated I.R.&N. Other events include a then-and-now slide presentation by Harry Bell (Ilwaco-Megler) at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday followed by the bus tour at 2 p.m., and (Ilwaco-Nahcotta) 11:30 a.m. on Sunday with the bus tour at 1 p.m. (Reservations are required for the bus tours.) The Shoalwater Storytellers, starring Kitt Fleming and Dave Immel will present Riding the Clamshell Railroad at 11 a.m., on Saturday and 2 p.m., on Sunday.  On both days the railcar Nahcotta will be open for touring. The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays are free thanks to support from the Port of Ilwaco. Peninsula Garden Tour

    PENINSULA The seventh annual Garden Tour on the Long Beach Peninsula, titled Music in the Gardens will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The tour will feature eight gardens with a wonderful variety of live music and delectable food and beverages that will encourage you to linger, experience and enjoy the Peninsulas beautiful outdoor rooms. And in addition, attendees will get to meet the gardeners who have mastered the art of successful gardening on the coast. The garden tour is a fundraiser for the Water Music Festival, which supports music programs in the Ocean Beach School. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased one week before the tour at three venues: The English Nursery at the corner of Highways 101 and 103 in Seaview; Peninsula Landscape Supply at 15289 Sandridge Rd in Long Beach and at Adelaides Books & Coffee at 1401 Bay Avenue in Ocean Park. Clatsop Weavers & Spinners

    SKAMOKAWA Redmen Hall at 1394 W SR-4 in Skamokawa, is excited to have the Clatsop Weavers and Spinners Guild return with a major summer exhibit. The exhibit open July 20 and runs through Sept. 1. The theme of the exhibit this year is, Its so nice to have a loom around the house will feature the practical side of weaving and spinning, showing hand spun and woven articles of use around the house. Rugs, towels, clothing, blankets, shawls, placemats all of these items and more will be displayed and most will be for sale. There will be weavers and spinners practicing their crafts during the weekends the exhibit is open and members of the Guild will be available for questions. Party for the pool

    RAYMOND  Join the party for the pool fundraiser on Saturday, July 20 at the Raymond Elks from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The fiesta themed party includes a taco and nacho bar dinner. There will be silent and live auctions with plenty of items for everyone to bid on. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at the Dr. O.R. Class of 93 Grads

    LONG BEACH The Ilwaco High School class of 1993 will celebrate their 20-year reunion on July 20 and July 21. Festivities will begin with a dinner Saturday evening, July 20, at      7:30 p.m. at the Lost Roo in Long Beach (adults only please, and payment by individual tabs). A family beach picnic will be held the next day, Sunday, July 21 at 11 a.m. at the north end of the boardwalk just off the Bolstad beach approach.  Hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks will be provided. Be sure to bring your own blanket, beach toys, and a food item to share. The cost of reunion attendance is $20 per alumni to offset picnic costs. Lets rodeo

    LONG BEACH Peninsula Saddle Club and Brims Farm and Garden are the hosts of the 68th Long Beach Rodeo at 6407 Sandridge Road in Long Beach. Events start on Friday evening, July 26 at 6:30 p.m., with a rodeo parade in downtown Long Beach. Then on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., is the cowboy breakfast at the rodeo grounds. The rodeo starts 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There will be drill team performances, a beer garden, vendors, concessions stands and more. Admission is $10 for adults; $9 for seniors; and children 6 to 12 will be admitted for $5. There is a discount for pre-sale tickets available at any Peninsula Pharmacy.

Class of 63 reunion

    ILWACO The Ilwaco High School graduating class of 1963 is holding their 50th reunion beginning at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the Cove Restaurant at Peninsula Golf Course. They are looking for other classmates, so tell all you know. Plus they are extending a special invitation to members of the classes of 1962 and 1964.
