Lifekeeper Memorial Quilt: Join a community project

The community is coming together to create the first Suicide Survivors Quilt for our area.

Each year, thousands are lost to death by suicide and this survivors quilt will put names and faces to the loved ones lost. The quilt helps preserve the memories of those we have lost as well as reminds us that this is an epidemic that needs our full attention.

When you make the decision to create a square for the quilt

A 12-by-12-inch square piece of white material will be provided. Your picture or message must be no bigger than 11-by-11, leaving a seam allowance of half an inch on all four sides. You can write on your square with fabric paint markers or pens; colors are up to you. Use messages, poems etc., but be sure and include your loved one’s relationship and age or birthdates, or an iron on picture. Contact us for the iron on picture choice.

The quilts give a face to this tragedy and help put an end to the “deadly silence.” These quilts go to many awareness events and make quite an impact.

The Peninsula Quilt Guild has graciously volunteered to help us create our squares on Friday, Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Peninsula Senior Activity Center. Everything you need will be at this work session. The guild will take our squares and then do the actual quilting.

Our goal is to have a finished quilt by March 22 for the Ilwaco Quilt show, where we have been asked to display the quilt.

If creating a square is not your thing or too difficult right now, we have people who will make the square using the information you give them.
