Letter: WHH leaders consider Delaware Avenue option

Published 10:46 am Monday, May 20, 2024

The board and administration of Willapa Harbor Hospital have looked carefully at three options for preserving access to safe, modern medical care in North Pacific County. The options include retrofit or reconstruction of the current buildings, replace the campus on the current site, and build on the Delaware Avenue site.

One option is to construct a newly designed building on the Delaware Avenue property. This option would require upgrade and construction of access roads. It would provide more space, improve workflow, allow for additional services, increase parking, and improve safety for patients, visitors, and staff. This option would allow the hospital and clinics to maintain revenues during the 30 months of design and construction. This option would cost approximately $92 million (if completed in 2027) with no decrease in patient services during construction and no lost revenues. We have heard from many who would like more information concerning the cost and timing of our purchase of the Delaware Avenue property. These questions will be addressed in a newspaper article following this article, as well as in future public community meetings.

The Board of Willapa Harbor Hospital, Pacific County Hospital District #2, is carefully considering all options. We will continue to gather community input on our findings. We are planning several community meetings in the future to review each of these options with the public. Stay tuned for meeting locations and dates.

Our priority is to assure that high quality, modern, health care remains available to North Pacific County for generations.
