Garden tour artists reception this Friday

OCEAN PARK — Bay Avenue Gallery in Ocean Park will hold a special reception Friday, July 17, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the artists of the 2015 Music in the Garden tour.

Several artists were invited into the gardens early this summer. Each artist created a plein air painting, (painted in the open air). Some artists begin outdoors and complete the artworks in their studio. Plein air is popular because the artist reproduces actual visual conditions that were seen at the time of the painting. Generations of artists have painted outdoors but the French Barbizon School of painting from mid-19 century stressed working in natural light, and the invention of paint in tubes, making them portable, sealed the deal.

Bay Avenue Gallery, 1406 Bay Ave., will celebrate these artists and their works Friday evening. This is also a perfect time to pick up tickets for the Garden Tour, which is Saturday, July 18. Tickets may be purchased for $20 at Bay Avenue Gallery, The English Nursery and Peninsula Landscape Supply.
