Butler exhibit open
ILWACO A new exhibit, Picturing the Lower Columbia The Paintings of Maude Kimball Butler, is at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum through July 31. The exhibit will includes more than 60 paintings encompassing her extraordinary views of pioneer life on the lower Columbia River. The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays are free thanks to support from the Port of Ilwaco. The Sound of Music
CHINOOK After successful auditions, rehearsals are in full swing for the Peninsula Association of Performing Artists production of The Sound of Music. With a cast of 25 outstanding performers from Rosburg to Astoria to Ocean Park, The Sound of Music is guaranteed to be a memorable experience for all. ASTORIA Beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, May 20, is the North Oregon Coast Symphonys season finale, Russian Harp, featuring the Peninsulas own very talented harpist, Cheri Walker, co-owner of 42nd Street Café. Vintage Fashion show
ILWACO From Past to Present, a vintage fashion show and lunch to benefit patient care at Ocean Beach Hospital, will be May 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. In what amounts to a time travelers tour of the fashion world, the event will feature clothing from the Roaring 20s to the Psychedelic 60s, and all points in between and beyond. Sponsored by Ocean Beach Hospital Foundation, the lunch is a fundraiser to support treatment programs including womens health and cancer screenings. In addition to the fashion show, the event will include raffle prizes and auction items. Tickets are available at Ocean Beach Hospital Gift Shop, the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum and the Long Beach Peninsula Trading Post. The cost is $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Grange Big Plant Sale
RAYMOND Saturday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Willapa Valley Grange at 290 Camp One Rd in Raymond, is hosting a plant sale event and more. Presentations include topics like Building Hoop Houses at 11:15 a.m., a forge welding demonstration at 12:20 p.m., and Gardening and Pets at 1:15 p.m. Local nursery vendors, soil amendment producers, farmers, veggie and herb flower seed suppliers will be on hand for all gardening needs. This event promises to be fun for the whole family! Worn Out Shoes will provide music. This is a potluck event with a suggested sliding donation of $1 to $5. Great White Tail Run
SKAMOKAWA The 27th annual Great White Tail Run will be held on May 21 beginning at 10 a.m., on the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge located in Skamokawa. Participants will run or walk an out and back course for the 10k, 5k or two miles. There will be recognition awards given to the top overall female and male in each event along with ribbons for the top three finishers in each age division. Registration and packet pickup will begin at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event at Vista Park where parking will be available. Day of run registration cost is $12 without a shirt and $25 with a shirt. LONG BEACH On May 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Long Beach Transfer Station, you can get rid of old washers and dryers, hot water heaters, ovens, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, microwaves and freezers free of charge. In addition, the household waste facility in Long Beach is open every Friday from 9 a.m. to noon through September. Blood drive
ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics is teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the hospital, Thursday, May 26, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Blood products are routinely transfused to those with cancer and other diseases, organ transplant recipients, premature babies, and accident and trauma victims. One donation can help save up to three lives, according to the Red Cross. Last year, 228 patients at Ocean Beach Hospital received more than 600 units of blood products, according to Steve Raymond, laboratory manager for the hospital. OBH support group
ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics Cancer Support Group will meet Friday, May 27, at 2 p.m. in the Ilwaco Community Building meeting room. The support group is part of the hospitals oncology outreach and education program. Cyndy Soule and Jami Greenfield, members of the hospitals chemotherapy team, will facilitate the meeting. OCEAN PARK The Friends of The Ilwaco-Ocean Park Libraries used book sale will be held May 27, May 28 and May 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Ocean Park Timberland Library. Some books are marked for price; all others are $1 per hardbound and trade paper and .50 for regular size paper. Stock up with summer reading material. All proceeds are for the benefit of the Ilwaco and Ocean Park Libraries.

LONG BEACH The Furrballs Golf Tournament is set for 10:30 a.m., Sunday, June 12 at Peninsula Golf Course in Long Beach. Come play golf and help our local no-kill shelter.
