Butler exhibit open
ILWACO A new exhibit, Picturing the Lower Columbia The Paintings of Maude Kimball Butler, is at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum through July 31. The exhibit will includes more than 60 paintings encompassing her extraordinary views of pioneer life on the lower Columbia River. The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Thursdays are free thanks to support from the Port of Ilwaco. OCEAN PARK Ocean Park Community Church at 26709 Vernon Avenue in Ocean Park is holding its annual bake sale and an indoor garage sale on Friday, May 27 and Saturday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Plus they are offering free coffee with purchased baked goods. Library Book Sale
OCEAN PARK The Friends of The Ilwaco-Ocean Park Libraries used book sale will be held May 27, May 28 and May 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Ocean Park Timberland Library. Some books are marked for price; all others are $1 per hardbound and trade paper and .50 for regular size paper. Stock up with summer reading material. All proceeds are for the benefit of the Ilwaco and Ocean Park libraries.

OBH support group
ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital and Medical Clinics Cancer Support Group will meet Friday, May 27, at 2 p.m. in the Ilwaco Community Building meeting room. The support group is part of the hospitals oncology outreach and education program. Cyndy Soule and Jami Greenfield, members of the hospitals chemotherapy team, will facilitate the meeting. The Sound of Music
CHINOOK The Peninsula Association of Performing Artists production of The Sound of Music is now open at the Fort Columbia Theater, above the tunnel. Gods Favorite
ILWACO The Peninsula Players production of Gods Favorite, a comedy written by Neil Simon, continues at River City Theater on Lake Street in Ilwaco. Performanaces are at 7 p.m., May 27 and May 28 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 29. Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased at the door, at Imperial Schooner at the Port of Ilwaco, at Stormin Normans in Long Beach or at Okies Thriftway in Ocean Park. This is their final production of the season, so dont miss it. In this play Simon takes a look at the book of Job from the Bible as his major plot. The script ponders how much one will suffer to stand up for what they think is right.

Bake sale
OCEAN PARK Beginning at 9 a.m., on Saturday, May 28, is the annual Ocean Park Food Bank bake sale at 1601 Bay Avenue. Donations support the local food bank and feed our community. Master bakers have been laboring for weeks to produce a varied and sumptuous supply of cakes, cookies, pies and other goodies. This is the only official fundraising event the food bank holds so come support the organization that support community members. Come to this great event for great baked goodies. Memorial Day Observances
PENINSULA On Monday, May 30, the American Legion and Auxiliary Don R. Grable Post and Unit No. 48, the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 1937, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars invite the public to observe Memorial Day with them. Observances will begin with raisings of the American Flag at Oysterville Cemetery at 8:45 a.m., Ocean Park Cemetery at 9:15 a.m. and Lone Fir Cemetery at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., the main program at the Ilwaco Cemetery will be held, followed by a program at the Black Lake Memorial in Ilwaco. After the Black Lake observance, all are invited to lunch, which will be served at the Elks Lodge in Long Beach. The speaker will be Desmond T. Doss, Jr. who will speak about his father, Desmond T. PENINSULA All city, county, state and federal offices will be closed on Monday, May 30 for the Memorial Day holiday. The Chinook Observer will be closed as well, and will re-open at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31.

Flag retirement
WARRENTON Astoria Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will conduct a flag retirement ceremony on Flag Day, June 14 at 1 p.m. on the grounds of the Fort Stevens Historical Park.
