Letter: Templin needs to adjust expectations

Published 8:35 am Monday, January 15, 2024

As the administrator for the Templin Foundation, I wanted to give you an update on this year’s activity. We normally grant between $180,000 to $214,000 to nonprofits and municipals for capital expenditures in South Pacific County. The amount has increased due to the fact our investments have grown.

This year in the month of January we are almost out of our allotted funds. We are either a) a victim of our own popularity or b) the need has increased or c) our grantees have become more sophisticated or d) all of the above. Normally we have funds to award grants for most of the year. The earliest that we have run out of allotted grant funds in the past was May and last year we ran out in July.

So, if you haven’t applied yet, there probably won’t be any funds available. In the past, we have always awarded grants based on a first-come, first-served basis, however that may change in the future. One of our goals is to help as many entities as possible.

We sent out instructions last year to anyone that was showing interest in applying. So, we are going to be making some changes to our parameters, starting in 2025. If you believe that you will be applying for a grant in 2025 or 2026, please let me know (Dian@centurytel.net) so that I can send you updated information that will be established at our annual meeting in July.

We will provide the updated information to the Chinook Observer after we have decided on the changes.
