Letter: Elections office isn’t doing door-to-door canvassing

Many counties are reporting persons going door to door asking residents for voting information. These canvasses are not associated with the Pacific County Elections Office.

The Pacific County Election Office does not go door-to-door to gather voter information, nor does it authorize others to do so.
Some voter registration information (such as name, address, whether you voted in an election) is public record, what you confirm to someone at your door is up to you. Voters are under no obligation to provide information to someone who comes to their door asking about their voter registration information.
Anybody claiming to know which candidates or issues you voted for is not telling the truth. All ballots are completely secret because your ballot is separated from any identifying information before it is counted. Even election officials do not know how you voted. No Pacific County Elections employee will ever ask you who you voted for.

It is a good idea to think twice before giving your personal information to someone that you do not know and/or trust.
If you want to update your voter registration record, you can do so online at VoteWA.gov or contact Pacific County Elections at 360-875-9317.
