Wednesday, Oct. 22

PENINSULA — A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Oct. 22 through Oct. 28, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

Thursday, Oct. 23

OYSTERVILLE — The Oysterville Community Club is hosting its annual ‘Town Hall and Lecture Series” at the historic Oysterville Schoolhouse at 10 a.m. as follows. On Oct. 23, Eric Weigardt, watercolorist will discuss “Fine Art and the Collector.” Additional speakers will be present on Nov. 6, Nov. 4 and Dec. 4. All are welcome to these gatherings. OCEAN PARK — Ocean Beach Hospital, in collaboration with Olympic Area Agency on Aging, has scheduled a free Workshop open to the public entitled Chronic Pain Self-Management. It will be held one afternoon each week on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for six weeks continuing until Nov. 20, in Ocean Park at the Family Worship Center meeting room at 26310 Ridge Ave. Space for the workshop is limited so please register early. PENINSULA —Wreaths may be sponsored for placement on veterans gravesites located in Ilwaco, Lone Fir, Ocean Park and Oysterville cemeteries. Individual sponsorships are $15. All proceeds go to the DAR mission of historic education, preservation and patriotism and the Wreaths Across America goal to Remember, Honor and Teach. CHINOOK — The Friends of Chinook School are holding their annual Oktoberfest Benefit Auction on Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Chinook School Event Center. The “Beer Garden” in a tent returns, this year offering local beers from North Jetty Brewery. Double J and the Boys will be playing fiddles in the tent and the Beach Buddies Band will be performing on the main gym stage. Joanne Leech will be creating another delicious dinner and there will be fantastic auction items to bid on. Again this year, admission to the event will cost $20 if you intend to enjoy the dinner, just $5 if you wish to come to participate in the auction, visit the “beer garden,” enjoy the music and greet friends and neighbors but forgo the special meal. RAYMOND — Musician Greg Blake will perform a special concert of Appalachian and Southern Gospel Music on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m., at the Raymond Theatre to benefit long-term disaster recovery efforts in the state of Washington.

Blake will share his love of gospel music with the audience. A free-will offering will be received to help communities in our state that are still recovering after recent natural disasters, like the wildfires and slides of the past few months. Fully 100 percent of the donations received will go to disaster relief. The historic Raymond Theatre is located at 323 Third Street in Raymond. SKAMOKAWA — Skamokawa Methodist Women are holding an Arts and Crafts Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the church located at 5 Vista Park Road in Skamokawa. There will be needlework, baked goods, homemade soaps, jewelry and art works. This would be a good opportunity to begin your holiday shopping, visit with friends and enjoy doughnuts, hot cider and live entertainment.

Sunday, Oct. 26

SURFSIDE — From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, Surfside Homeowners Association will host a terrarium planting and pumpkin painting party in the community room at 31402 H Street. All materials will be provided and participants can keep what they make. If you have your own special bowl, jar or bottle, please bring it along — it must be a clear, uncolored material of some kind. Small pumpkins will be provided for your children to decorate and take home. Light refreshments, a door prize, free admission, plus Surfside’s very own garden guru Ann Thoreson. ILWACO — Count Valters and the Zombie Band will be haunting the River City Playhouse in Ilwaco with a Rock and Roll Halloween Concert on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. The concert will be a benefit for the Peninsula Players with a suggested donation of $5. The band former Ocean Beach School District music instructor Bob Walters and his sons, Lucas, Evan and Burton.

RAYMOND — Sunday Afternoon Live presents a rollicking bluegrass concert featuring Jeff Scroggins and Colorado at The Raymond Theatre at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 26. Opening the show will be Mara Levine, singing traditional and contemporary folk songs and backed up by the featured band, Jeff Scroggins and Colorado. Levine also designs her original style of jewelry and will have some pieces on sale at the show. This concert is sponsored by the generosity of Thrivent, Lornett Apartments and Dean and Stephanie Antich. Tickets are $12 at pre-sale and $15 on the day of performance. LONG BEACH — The World Kite Museum at 303 Sid Snyder Drive in Long Beach has all of the Washington State International Kite Festival Posts and would like to get them framed so they can be shared in an upcoming-featured exhibit. SEAVIEW — On Oct. 28 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., NAMI Pacific will have a discussion on “Suicide … Myths, Realities and Hopes” at the Peninsula Church Center located at 5000 “N” Place in Seaview. Three women will share their different perspectives on the difficult but important subject of suicide. Kristin Clouse of Willapa Behavioral Health will discuss her work as a counselor, particularly with teens, describing what people can do toward preventing suicides among their peers. Barbara Bate will share several suicide attempt survivor accounts from interviews for her book “Tsunami of the Mind.” Michelle Dill will talk about plans to start a local group for people who have lost a loved one to suicide. Time will also be allowed for questions and comments. The program begins at 6 p.m. with a free supper of chili and cornbread prepared by NAMI members and friends. The panel discussion starts at 6:30 p.m. and lasts until 7:30 pm. Anyone interested in brain illnesses and recovery is welcome to attend, and bring a friend! ILWACO — The American Legion’s annual Derald D. Robertson Safety Awards ceremony and banquet will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. Seven people who protect our safety on the Long Beach Peninsula will be honored after dinner. Those who will be honored are: Pacific County Fire District 1 (Ocean Park): EMT Joyce Tuerck, “EMT of the Year;” Ilwaco Volunteer Fire Department: John A. Bageant, “Firefighter of the Year;” South Pacific County Technical Rescue: Jeff Chabot, “Rescue Specialist of the Year;” Pacific County Sheriff’s Office: Sgt. Corey Flynn, “Corrections Officer of the Year;” USCG Cape Disappointment: FNMK Konor D. Mercer, “Enlisted Person of the Year;” USCG Sector Columbia River: ME3 Brian W. Kelley, “Enlisted Person of the Year;” USCG Auxiliary, Flotilla 62: Lee LaFollette, “USCG Auxiliarist of the Year.” The featured speaker will be David Hodgeboom, the State commander of the American Legion. OCEAN PARK — On Friday, Oct. 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. kids of all ages are invited to the Halloween party at Pacific County Fire Station No. 1, 26110 Ridge Ave., Ocean Park. There will be games, candy and lots of fun. The Peninsula Lions Club and Fire District are hosting this event. 1.

LONG BEACH — The public is invited to a Children’s Halloween Party at the Long Beach Elks Lodge No. 1934 at 110 Pacific Highway on Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is a great event for kids 11 years old and younger. Attendees should be ready for a fun time of games and lots of candy!

SEAVIEW — The Peninsula Church Center is holding their annual bake sale and bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 5000 “N” Place in Seaview. There will be delicious homemade pies and soup, plus pottery, cranberry baskets, beaded silverware, fused glass, jewelry, knitting, wooden puzzles, photography, hand-sewn items, books, purses and more. And don’t forget, 15 percent of all vendor proceeds go to the Ocean Beach Presbyterian Women’s Association to help fund mission work locally and abroad.

ILWACO — On Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 .pm., Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum will present a lecture by well-known Lewis and Clark historian Barb Kubik entited, “Recruiting Volunteers for the Corps of Discovery: Was it the Pay? The Adventure? The Benefits?” This event is free and open to the public. On Saturday Nov. 8 at 9 a.m. the Dismal Nitch bus tour will be led by Jim Sayce, Washington State Historical Society’s manager for local projects who uses the journals of Lewis and Clark to guide the participants along the landscape of the river as it might have been over 200 years ago to find the “real” Dismal Nitch. The cost is $20; advanced reservations are required by calling 642-3446. On Saturday, Nov. 8 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Chinook Tribe Salmon Dinner will be held at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in Ilwaco. The dinner will include regional seafood, salad, Indian fry bread, dessert and beverages. The cost is $15 per person, seniors (55 and over) $13, children under 12 are $5. OCEAN PARK — DoGoodnics, a Peninsula 501(c)3 organization, is producing a unique Celebration of Community event on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Peninsula Senior Activity Center. The event honors outstanding volunteers from numerous Peninsula nonprofit organizations. KLIPSAN — Rebuilding Together Pacific County invites the public to an informational meeting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Peninsula Senior Center. With a motto of “safe and warm,” the group works to help low income homeowners on the Peninsula stay in their home safely. Come learn how you can help your friends and neighbors in need. Volunteers build ramps, install grab bars and rails, repair floors, replace windows and doors, and mix minor plumbing and electrical issues. To get this job done, they need construction volunteers and helpers, but also organizational volunteers.
