Hospice memorial tree

LONG BEACH  Harbors Home Health and Hospice, located across from McDonalds in Long Beach on Pacific Avenue is holding a memorial tree lighting and open house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 4. Those who wish are encouraged to bring a remembrance ornament to hang on their outdoor tree.

Holiday centerpieces

NASELLE  Naselle Timberland Library is hosting an event called Winter Holiday Centerpieces, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Dec. 4 for adults. Join Christina Miller and learn the secrets of creating holiday arrangements. Bring your favorite waterproof bowl or shallow dish, as well as any special ornaments. NAMI support group

LONG BEACH  A new Wednesday support group begins in Long Beach on Dec. 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., at the blue and white house in the middle of Driftwood RV Park, 1512 Pacific Avenue N. in Long Beach. A rotating group of trained local residents will encourage the sharing of ideas and experiences in a supportive, confidential setting. (This gathering replaces the monthly Tuesday afternoon support group at the South County Administration Building in Long Beach.) Community Historian Project

ILWACO  If you have an interest in history, genealogy or historical mysteries, come join the Community Historian Project. You will learn about Pacific County history and be part of an enjoyable fun group who want to learn about this amazing place we live. The class meets Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The cost is $100 for 15 weeks of great speakers, tours and experiences! CERT meeting

LONG BEACH The Pacific County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) meets Dec. 6 at 6:30 p.m., at Lighthouse Oceanfront Resort located at 12417 Pacific Avenue in Long Beach. This meeting is open to the public. The Awesome Aliens Lego League from Hillsboro, Ore., will make a presentation. They are doing a presentation about Natures Fury as part of a competition. ILWACO There will be a huge Christmas bazaar at Pacific Bible Church (up the hill-across from Black Lake) on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are more than 25 vendors set to participate with lots of handmade unique items for sale such as jewelry, woodworking, aprons, ornaments, Christmas items, jams, roasted nuts, homemade goodies, plus Scentsy, Avon, Mary Kay and more! Yes, Virginia

ILWACO Peninsula Players is presenting a radio play opening on Dec. 6 and running until Dec. 15 on weekends, entitled Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus by Andrew J. Fenady. The play will be on the River City Playhouse stage where the cast will mimic a 40s radio show. Besides the dialogue there will be live sound effects comparable to those used during this time period. The cast includes Frank Logan, John Adams, Laurie Carter, Janis Hoover, Rose Wallace, Art Herring, Rob Lindberg, Penny Bierly and Ed Ahlers, with sound effects by Bill Nickila. The players have scheduled Friday night shows at 7 p.m. and matinees on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. All performances will allow free admittance to children 12 years old and under accompanied by a paying adult. The cost is $10 for adults.

ILWACO  The Saturday Christmas Market at the Port has more than 13 vendors featuring arts, crafts, jewelry, holiday gifts, cookies, cakes, pies and much more. The Christmas Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7, Dec. 14 and Dec. 21.

Crab pot tree & more

ILWACO  On Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. the lighting of the crab pot Christmas tree will take place at the Port of Ilwaco with the lighted boat parade beginning at 6 p.m. For information call Bruce at 503-338-9511.

Pet pics with Santa

LONG BEACH  On Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the newly-enclosed outdoor stage at Veterans Field in downtown Long Beach, Santa will be on hand for photos with your pets. Located just behind the police station this is a great venue for pictures. The cost is a minimum donation of $5, which includes two prints. Or, for a small donation you can get the digital originals so you can have as many prints made as you wish. Its loads of fun with lots of cool pets, people and Santa! Holiday bazaar

NASELLE  The Martha Circle Holiday Bazaar is set for Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Naselle Congregational Church at 14 Parpala Road in Naselle. In addition beginning at 11 a.m., for a $7 donation you can enjoy lunch that features taco soup or clam chowder plus a beverage and dessert. Artist Guild Bazaar

LONG BEACH  Northwest Artist Guild will have their bazaar on Dec. 7 between noon and 5 p.m. at Gallery 504 North in the Peninsula Performing Arts Center in Long Beach. This bazaar will not only have original paintings by Guild artists Jean Nitzel, Dian Schroeder, Kent Toepfer, Betsy Toepfer, Susan McCloud, Connie Criess, Wes Moehnke, Sharon Strong, Maxine Brown, Judy Leonard, Joan Taplin and Martha Lee, but also cards, some unframed original paintings, and prints and more by some of these artists. These are in time and suitable for gift giving for any occasion! There will also be a 2014 calendar available for sale with a picture of a painting from each one of the original guild artists. There are now limited quantities of these calendars available.

Relay for Life holiday bazaar

RAYMOND The Raymond High School Relay For Life team is hosting the 5th Annual Hope for the Holidays Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Raymond High School Commons. Birders Get Acquainted Meeting

LONG BEACH Five birding interest groups from our area will convene for a get-acquainted meeting at the Long Beach Grange, 5715 Sandridge Road, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 7. The groups include: Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey: COASST (Coastal areas); Friends of Willapa National Wildlife Refuge (SW Washington); Grays Harbor Audubon Society -(Montesano); Shoalwater Birders (Peninsula); and Willapa Hills Audubon Society (Longview). COASST will do a 20-minute presentation at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Birders of all skill and interest levels are welcome. Come for good information, fun and refreshments.

Christmas trees for sale

ILWACO Every weekend continuing to Dec. 22, the Ilwaco Music Departments tree lot, located at the maintenance yard off School Road in Ilwaco, will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fresh cut Noble firs grown in Raymond are priced as follows: four- to five-foot tree $30; five- to six-foot tree $40 or six- to seven-foot tree $50. This is a fundraiser for the band and choir trip to Orlando, Fla., set for this spring. Please contact Rachel Lake at the high school for more details at 642-3731.

Choir concert

ILWACO The Ilwaco High School Show Choir Epic Echo Concert is at 3 p.m. on Dec. 8 in the Hilltop Auditorium. The public is encouraged to come support our youth.

Orchid Society meeting

ASTORIA  The Sunset Empire Orchid Society monthly meeting will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 565 12th Street in Astoria. This will be the clubs annual Christmas party and members are asked to bring food to share and a plant-related gift of no more than $10 value for the gift exchange. Shoeboxes of Joy

PENINSULA The Shoeboxes of Joy donation station in the Long Beach Depot at 102 3rd Street NW (next to Dennis Company) will be open until Dec. 22 with hours Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday hours from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Shoeboxes of Joy is a program for low income elderly or disabled who may not have family close by. A bar of soap, a bottle of hand lotion, a can of soup, a crossword puzzle book, and a package of cookies are just some of the types of items that would be perfect. A full box with a good variety of items makes the best gift. Shoeboxes and/or individual items are needed by Dec. 22. Memory tree

ILWACO Ocean Beach Hospital Foundation invites the public to attend a Memory Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m., in the hospital lobby. Youre invited to partake in refreshments, and memorialize a loved one with a memory tree ornament. Ornaments are available in the hospital gift shop and donations of any amount are welcome. Book fair

OCEAN PARK Ocean Park Elementary is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair Dec. 9 through Dec. 13. This event helps raise funds for purchasing books for the school library. Featured will be specially priced books and educational products including newly-released works, award-winning titles, childrens classics, interactive software and current bestsellers from more than 150 publishers. Hours are as follows: Monday, Dec. 9 is a view day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then Tuesday, Dec. 10 through Thursday, Dec. 12, come purchase a book from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 13, hours of the event are 8 a.m. to noon. Grays River party

GRAYS RIVER Grays River Grange No. 124 is holding a Christmas Party beginning at 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Grays River Grange Hall. On the agenda for the evening will be the potluck dinner, caroling, gift exchange, raffle drawing for a Christmas wall hanging, Grays River Farmers Market T-shirts, and more. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the party. In addition, members will be recognized for their years of Grange membership, Robert Pyle will read, The Night before Christmas and Santa will visit. (If you have a child attending, please bring a gift with your childs name on it for Santa to deliver.) Master gardener classes

ILWACO Do you enjoy gardening and sharing gardening information? If you do enjoy learning, gardening and sharing researched based information with others, turn in your application to become a WSU Master Gardener. Training starts in January and will be held on Saturdays, every other week, through June. Applications and information are available at the extension offices in Elma and South Bend as well as through mgtrainees@gmail.com. Besides the required local Saturday training, there is computer on-line work to do through WSU that is completed at home. Contact mgtrainees@gmail.com for your application. Families helping families

ILWACO Starting Dec. 14, from noon to 3 p.m., Families helping Families will be a community outreach project at Pacific Bible Church. Families will be able to come to the church and receive clothing (for kids and adults), personal hygiene items, toiletries, laundry soap, blankets and more. Donations and volunteers are welcome. Tuba Christmas Concert

ILWACO  Everyone is invited to attend the free Tuba Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum at 115 SE Lake Street in Ilwaco. This family-fun event, sponsored by the Water Music Festival Society, features the Astoria Tuba Quartet performing toe-tapping music plus a few refreshments and lots of good fellowship. Christmas concert

RAYMOND Willapa Harbor Chorale will lift their voices in celebration of the Christmas season during their 42nd annual Christmas concert on Sunday, Dec. 15, beginning at 7 p.m. at the historic Raymond Theater. Thirty singers will perform a variety of holiday music. The choir is directed by Rick Gauger with Beth Ginther as accompanist Additional support is given by flutist Connie Bevington and Lew Chapman on trumpet.
