Trick or treat
KLIPSAN Trick or treat at Golden Sands Assisted Living in Klipsan from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31. This is a safe, fun and warm way to trick or treat. Spread cheer and help with their food drive by bringing a non-perishable food donation.
Chronic conditions workshop
OCEAN PARK Living Well with Chronic Conditions workshop continues on Oct. 24, Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, Nov. 14 and Nov. 21, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Family Worship Center, at 26310 Ridge Avenue in Ocean Park, two specifically trained leaders will facilitate the workshop. Using material developed by Stanford Universitys Chronic Disease-Self Management Program, this workshop is designed to help anyone who suffers from a chronic condition. Those who are caring for someone with a chronic condition are also encouraged to attend. Each participant will have access to a Living Well With Chronic Conditions book. The meeting site is accessible to persons with disabilities. Holiday bake sale & bazaar
SEAVIEW Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church Womens Association is holding a holiday bake sale and bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2 at Peninsula Church Center, 5000 N Place in Seaview. Come and enjoy homemade pies (such as chocolate, lemon, cherry, apple, rhubarb, blackberry, pumpkin and banana cream) and coffee or tea. Booths will feature pottery, cranberry baskets, glassworks, jewelry, knitting, wooden puzzles, photography, hand-sewn items, books, purse, watercolors and more. A raffle will be offered by the Mission Youth Group. Fifteen percent of all vendor proceeds go to the help fund mission work, both local and abroad.

Essay contest deadline
PENINSULA Nov. 1 is the deadline for submissions to the Long Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3721 essay and scholarship programs competitions. The two competitions are, Voice of Democracy for students in ninth through 12th grades, and the Patriots Pen competition for students in sixth through eighth grades. The competitions are open to all students enrolled in public, private or home schooling. Entrants in the Voice of Democracy competition are required to prepare and record a three- to five-minute essay using the theme, Why Im Optimistic About our Nations Future. Patriots Pen entrants are required to write a 300- to 400-word essay on What Patriotism Means to Me. Drop off your food donation now or through Nov. 1 at any branch of Peninsula Pharmacies, Anchor Realty in Long Beach and Ocean Park, Boardwalk Quilts in Long Beach and Adrift Hotel in Long Beach. Items most needed include chili, soup, tuna, canned meats, stews, peanut butter, breakfast cereals, canned vegetables, cracker and lots more.

Elk chili feed
NEMAH Nemah elk hunters are holding their annual chili feed from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Nemah School at milepost 35 on Highway 101. Everyone is welcome to this annual all-you-can-eat feed. The community meal, held each year during elk season, is a fundraiser toward the upkeep of the old building. With a wide variety to choose from, for a small charge at the door, you get a great meal in a fun environment.
NW Artist Guild event
LONG BEACH Northwest Artist Guild is holding their monthly show at Gallery 504 North in the Peninsula Performing Arts Center. The show will open on Saturday, Nov. 2, at noon and run until 5 p.m. Featured artist for the month of November will be Jan Richardson, celebrated ceramic artist, from Oysterville. Swift exhibit
SKAMOKWA Redmen Halls final exhibit of 2013 includes the paintings of artist Mike Swift. He is a prolific storyboard artist for the film industry. He also paints some amazing portraits of people, cars, planes, boats and landscapes. He has a fine sense of texture and colors that is reflected in these portraits we will be exhibiting at Redmen Hall. This outstanding exhibit will run through Thanksgiving weekend with selected paintings showing in the Holiday Open House through Dec. 22. Redmen Hall is located at 1394 S.R.4 in Skamokawa and is open Thursday through Sunday.

The Rabbis Heartbeat by Brennan Manning will be the basis of the discussioin offered by Rev. Richard Loop of St. Peter Episcopal Church, this Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This is a short pithy soul- and grace-filled book written from the authors heart, which has in turn touched the heart of many who have read it. CHINOOK The Wizard of Oz is returning to the PAPA Theater at Fort Columbia in Chinook. NASELLE On Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale will be held at the Naselle Lutheran Church at 308 Knappton Road in Naselle. The event will include fall and Christmas decor, a wide variety of gift items and baked goods. John Indermarks latest book, Advent, A to Z will also be available for purchase. Several hot soups accompanied by breads and coffee will be offered starting at 11 a.m. as a free-will donation. Tillicum Foundation Meeting
ASTORIA The Tillicum Foundation will hold its 2013 annual membership meeting on Saturday, Nov. 9, in the Fellowship Hall of Grace Episcopal Church at 1545 Franklin Street in Astoria. A complimentary breakfast for Coast Community Radio members will begin at 9 a.m. and the meeting will start at 10 a.m. The meetings agenda includes the election of five directors to serve on the Foundation board and reports on KMUN, KTCB and KCPB by Board President David Hall, and General Manager Joanne Rideout. Presentations will be made to recognize the Coast Community Radios Programmer of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Rookie of the Year and the Board of Directors Award. The Tillicum Foundation is a 501(c) (3), not-for-profit, educational corporation which owns the licenses of KMUN 91.9 FM, KTCB 89.5 FM, KCPB 90.9 FM and low power FM translators in Cannon Beach 89.5, in Wheeler 88.9, and in South Astoria 91.3. The brief ceremony will honor all veterans before the flags are lowered. Peninsula Poverty Response
SEAVIEW Peninsula Poverty Response meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at St. Marys Catholic Church in Seaview. This group seeks to reduce the consequences related to poverty on the Long Beach Peninsula by raising awareness of the needs of people living in poverty in the community, increasing access to and utilization of existing resources decreasing short and long term homelessness on the Peninsula, increasing employment opportunities and job skills.
