Flag day & disposal
LONG BEACH The American Legion Post #48, the Elks (B.P.O.E. 1937) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will observe Flag Day on Friday, June 14, at noon behind the Elks lodge next to the Long Beach Post Office. Participants will perform the ceremony for the disposal of unserviceable and worn flags. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and are welcome to bring worn and faded flags to be retired. The ceremony will be followed by cookies and coffee or juice at the Elks Lodge. Hearts & Feet to Fight Cancer
RAYMOND Walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer when the 13th Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Willapa Bay gets underway with teams of residents gathering at Raymond High School on Friday, June 14, at 6 p.m. Relay For Life events are held overnight as individuals and teams camp out with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times throughout the evening. Teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fundraisers at their camp sites during Relay. Funds raised at Relay For Life of Willapa Bay are enabling the American Cancer Society to impact the lives of those touched by cancer within the community. The theme of the 2013 Relay For Life of Willapa Bay is Relaywood: Where a star is born and a cure is found! There are many fun activities planned for all to enjoy! 125 Years of Rail
ILWACO The exhibit From the Water to the Woods: 125 Years of Rail is on view at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum at 115 SE Lake Street in Ilwaco. On July 19, 1888, the Ilwaco Railway & Navigation Company held a grand celebration commemorating the completion of its line from Ilwaco to Long Beach. To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Clamshell Railroad the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum has organized this exhibit. The exhibition (on view through Sept. 1. NW Garlic Festival
OCEAN PARK The 32nd NW Garlic Festival is here! Held Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continuing Sunday, June 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the delectable and ever fragrant festival fills Ocean Parks Wilson Field (25815 Sandridge Road) with everything garlic. Local and regional food offerings, artisan crafted items and area non-profits share space with garlic loving merchants. Adding to the festivities, live music fills the air non-stop. On Saturday morning, the Ilwaco High School Jazz Band gets the party started with a touch of jazz, big band and swing. Sunday morning brings the high-energy fiddle tunes and traditional blue grass flavored music of Double J and the Boys. And North Coast Blues, a local and regional favorite, will be there both afternoons to delight the crowds with their blend of funk, blues and rock and roll. CHINOOK The Chinook Indian Nation will be holding their annual General Council meeting on Saturday, June 15, at the Chinook School Gym in Chinook. LONG BEACH On June 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Long Beach Grange is hosting Pacific County Master Gardeners who will hold a workshop on container gardening using edible plants. The workshop includes a demonstration of planting a container with such things as carrots, lettuce, radishes; a handout on what types of containers to use, what grows well in containers, how to plant and more; a list of sources for getting seeds for plants that grow well in Pacific County and much more. Military Officers gathering
WARRENTON The quarterly meeting of the Lower Columbia River Chapter of the Military Officers Association (MOAA) will be held on Sunday, June 16 at the Serendipity Deli Caffe at 160 South Main Ave, Warrenton. Hank Cramer concert
RAYMOND The June 16 Hank Cramer concert set for 2 p.m. at the historic Raymond Theatre will be the final act of Sunday Afternoon Lives 10th anniversary series. Seaquest Motel and Coast Oyster are sponsoring the concert. Cramers smooth picking on a vintage flat-top guitar will be backed by a line-up of his long-time music partners, including Robby Thran of Winthrop on bass and hammered dulcimer Mark Iler of Olympia on tenor guitar and harmonica, and Davey Hakala on fiddle and harmonica. Starter Emergency Supply Kits
SOUTH BEND The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency will be hosting an event to distribute starter emergency supply kits to low income families of Pacific County. Participants will learn how to respond personally to a disaster as well as how to use the supplies in their kits. Everyone is encouraged to attend this training; however, kits are limited and will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. The event will be held at Pacific County Fire District 1 at 26110 Ridge Avenue in Ocean Park on Wednesday, June 19, at 6 p.m. Pre-registration is required to attend this event. Supplies to create these kits were donated by Pacific County residents in a disaster preparedness supply drive that was held in January. Annual Ham Field Day
NAHCOTTA The Pacific County Amateur Radio Club (PCARC) will participate for the 12th year in the annual North American Field Day operating event the weekend of June 22. The event will be held jointly at the Port of Peninsula and Morehead Park in Nahcotta. The public is invited to observe amateur radio at work and learn how to make contact with other radio stations in North America. The best time to visit operations is Saturday midday through late afternoon. Stop by the Get on the Air tent to learn first-hand about radio operations, pick up a brochure, take a tour, or ask questions about becoming a licensed radio amateur. Participate at the VHF station by sending an email via radio to a friend or family member. The PCARC hopes that people will come and observe the capabilities of the countys radio amateurs. The Pacific County Amateur Radio Club meets the second Saturday of each month at 9 a.m., at Hunters Inn in Naselle. Anyone interested in learning about ham radio is encouraged to attend. Beach to Chowder Walk/Run
LONG BEACH Walk or run a 5k or run a 10k on the hard-packed beach sand at the Beach to Chowder event sent for June 22. Register by calling 642-2400. Each participant will have a chowder ticket in their race packet. Lunch begins at noon and includes a beverage. Non-participants can purchase a ticket for chowder for just $5. Waikiki Beach concert
ILWACO At 7 p.m., on June 22, the public is invited to Cape Disappointment State Parks Waikiki Beach for a concert by the band Ranger and the Rearrangers. This group is from Seattle and are said to evoke the spirit of a Paris café and the raucous energy of a gypsy campsite with their unique twist on gypsy jazz. The bands repertoire includes swing standards, traditional gypsy melodies, Brazilian chaos and more. Bring a lawn chair and other personal comforts and sit back and enjoy some great music at this free outdoor concert. A Discover Pass is required. For more information call 642-3029.

LONG BEACH Canine owners and dog-lovers are invited to join the Doggie Olympic Games on June 28 and June 29 at the Bolstad beach approach in Long Beach. Events include the Babe Ruth Obedience Baseball to Whos Your Daddy? There will be an opening ceremony with the lighting of the Olympic flame. NASELLE Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is offering a hunter education class starting June 24 and running through June 29 at the Naselle High School. Class will run 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday. If needed the class may run Saturday from 8 a.m. until the students are finished with the field portion of the class. Emergency Response Team Training
SOUTH BEND The Pacific County Emergency Management Agency (PCEMA) is offering a three-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. The course is scheduled for Friday, June 28 through Sunday, June 30. The training will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Pacific County Administration Facility at 7013 Sandridge Road in Long Beach. Participants should bring their lunch each day. Complete attendance is required to graduate from the course. Course units are a combination of hands-on tutorial, presentation with lecture, and group activities with discussion. All course materials will be provided. Accommodations will gladly be made for participants with special needs. Participants under the age of 18 will need parent/guardian permission to attend. IHS Class of 93 Grads!
LONG BEACH The class of 1993 will celebrate their 20-year reunion on July 20 and July 21. Festivities will begin with a dinner Saturday evening, July 20, at 7:30 p.m. at The Lost Roo in Long Beach (adults only please, and payment by individual tabs). A family beach picnic will be held the next day, Sunday, July 21 at 11 a.m. at the north end of the boardwalk just off the Bolstad beach approach. Hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks will be provided BYO blanket, beach toys, and a food item to share. Cost of reunion attendance is $20 per alumni to offset picnic costs.
