The Long Beach Garden is located on the corner of 11th Street North and Oregon Avenue North, and the Klipsan garden is located behind Jimella and Nanci’s Market Café on Pacific Highway. The Long Beach plots have been expanded this year to 9 feet by 15 feet, and there are several still available. The Klipsan plots vary in size but are roughly 5 feet by 20 feet, and there are four plots available. The Klipsan gardeners will have access to two communal beds to share, one of which contains strawberries, currants and raspberries and the other fruit trees, currants, blueberries, rhubarb, some celery, onions, calendula (edible flowers) and soon-to-be-added herbs. The Long Beach gardeners will also soon have a communal strawberry tower, plus beds of herbs, blueberries, rhubarb and raspberries to share. All plots are $35 for the year.
On April 27, the annual Spring Planting Party and Potluck begins at 10 a.m. All interested volunteers, whether they have a garden plot or not, are welcome to join together for a day of garden bed preparation and planting and to bring a dish to share for the potluck lunch. Dishes, utensils and beverages will be provided. Organizers said approximately 30 to 40 people showed up throughout the day for this event last year, and they would love to repeat that number.
