PENINSULA A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point through May 8, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between midnight and noon. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each diggers clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.

Line dancing
LONG BEACH Line dancing on the Peninsula is offered at Long Beach Grange at 5715 Sandridge Road. Through the summer, dancing for beginners and intermediates is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and advanced dancers hit the floor from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. each Thursday, except the fourth Thursday of the month. Columbia-Pacific Farmers Market
LONG BEACH The new Columbia-Pacific Farmers Market, a Friday afternoon market in downtown Long Beach, will open on May 6 and will be open each Friday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. through September. The new market will offer fresh, locally sourced produce, seafood, meat, eggs and dairy, as well as flowers, plants and locally packaged food. The market will include 20 or so farmers, ranchers, fishers, growers, and package food producers, and will also feature entertainment and games. It will be a place to meet your neighbor every Friday afternoon/evening and have fun! Many volunteers will be needed each week from noon until 7:30 p.m., mid-May through September. ILWACO Beginning at 4 p.m., on Saturday, May 7, the public is encouraged to attend a fundraising event called Oceans of Hope at the Artisan in Ilwaco. The evening consists of hors doeuvres and a silent auction, items up for bid including one of a kind artwork, fine dining and hotel certificates, jewelry, charter fishing trips, books by local authors, locally canned seafood and much more. Tickets are available at the Bank of the Pacific or at the door on the day of the event. The Domestic Violence Awareness Project is dedicated to promoting healthy relationships through education and awareness, to break the cycle of domestic violence in our community. Bunco for breast cancer
LONG BEACH Join in the fun at Bunco for Breast Cancer on May 7 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Super 8 Motel in Long Beach. All proceeds from this event will be used locally by Columbia Memorial to help uninsured and low-income women in our community to pay for mammograms and other womens health checks. Spring into the fight against breast cancer while helping local residents. Peninsula Bunco Club and Columbia Memorial Hospital are co-hosting this event. Peninsula Garden Party
OYSTERVILLE Coast Community Radio (KMUN) presents its third annual Peninsula Garden Party on May 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Oysterville Sea Farms at 34300 1st Street in Oysterville. Admission is free. Visitors touring the waterfront in Oysterville will see a wide array of native flora and fauna, and witness the productive farms of Willapa Bay. Host Dan Driscoll will be joined by master gardeners featured on KMUNs popular gardening program, Diggin the Dirt. Starting at 10 a.m., they will preside over the sale of a unique variety of shrubs, annuals, perennials, herbs, vines, grasses, vegetable starts and more. In addition, Willapa Bay oysters donated by Willapa Resources and the Northern Oyster Company, Inc., will be available fresh from the grill served with special accompaniments, and there will be hot dogs and beverages as well. Guests can stroll the grounds and then throw a blanket on the lawn beside the bay for picnicking. Starting at noon, from the open doors of Willabay Specialty Foods, music will be performed until 3 p.m., by the Oyster Boys, the new combo of Joey Patenaude, Dave Crabtree, Dave Quinton and Liam Dunne. LONG BEACH From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 7, the public is encouraged to bring obsolete tax documents, bank statements, credit card documents, financial statements, insurance documents and any other paperwork you want destroyed to the parking lot behind Strand Insurance and the Chinook Observer at 205 Bolstad Avenue East in Long Beach. Defend the Dream Rally

GRAYS RIVER Grays River Valley pioneer history will come to life for this years Friendship Circle 9th Annual Spring Tea and Luncheon to be held on Sunday, May 15 at the Rosburg Community Hall off Highway 4 in Rosburg. Doors at the hall will be opened at noon and the luncheon served at 12:30 p.m., with the program to follow. Several local history photo albums will be on hand and there will be some surprises too as parts of them will be brought to life. Great White Tail Run
SKAMOKAWA The 27th annual Great White Tail Run will be held on May 21 beginning at 10 a.m., on the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge located in Skamokawa. Participants will run or walk an out and back course for the 10k, 5k or two miles. There will be recognition awards given to the top overall female and male in each event along with ribbons for the top three finishers in age division. Registration and packet pickup will begin at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event at Vista Park where parking will be available. Day of run registration cost is $12 without a shirt and $25 with a shirt.
