OCEAN PARK – Five residences are lit up for the first Ocean Park Christmas Light and Decoration Competition – your votes are needed to determine which home has the most unique display, the most lights, and the most holiday spirit. The homes are located at: 1580 134th Lane; 20909 Pacific Highway; 24707 “P” Street; 29011 “H” Street; and 29918 “M” Place. Voting ends Friday, Dec. 17. After observing them all, pick up a voting ballot at the Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce, on the “Ocean Park Christmas Lighting/Decoration Contest” Facebook page, or e-mail your choices to oceanparklights@yahoo.com. PACIFIC COUNTY – The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is starting soon. Coastal Community Action Program will open phone lines at 8:30 a.m., Dec. 16 to begin making appointments. OCEAN PARK – Ocean Park Signs proudly presents the fourth edition of the Christmas lights and music program “Remember the Magic” at 29011 “H” Street in Ocean Park. (North of Joe Johns, and south of 295th on the ocean side.) The hour-long program plays three times every night through Dec. 26 starting at 5:30 p.m., and repeating until 8:30 p.m. Christmas Eve will run an additional show and stay on until 9:30 p.m. There are more lights and some new music this year. Listen from your car on our neighborhood broadcast station playing on 89.5 FM. The show is free to all. Donations for the South Pacific County Humane Society are greatly appreciated. Clamming
PENINSULA – A razor clam dig is scheduled on the Long Beach Peninsula from the Columbia River north jetty to Leadbetter Point on Dec. 31 through Jan. 2, 2011, pending marine toxin tests, with digging allowed between noon and midnight. The best time to start is an hour or two before low tide and it is recommended you take a lantern for evening digs. Low tides adjusted for Pacific beaches those days are as follows: Friday, Dec. 31, 4:44 p.m. -0.2; Saturday, Jan. 1, 5:37 p.m. -0.5; Sunday, Jan. 2, 6:26 p.m. -0.7. Harvesters are allowed to take no more than 15 razor clams and must keep the first 15 they dig, regardless of size or condition. Each digger’s clams must be kept in a separate container. Licenses are available at numerous local businesses.
Farmers Market volunteers
LONG BEACH – The Columbia-Pacific Farmers’ Market will get off the ground in May 2011. An authentic farmers’ market, this event will be exclusively a food market dedicated to showcasing the spectacular eats of the Columbia-Pacific region and to supporting and celebrating the hardworking people who bring those foods to our community. The market will include 20 or so farmers, ranchers, fishers, growers, and package food producers, and will also feature entertainment and games. It will be a place to meet your neighbor every Friday afternoon/evening and have fun! Many volunteers will be needed each week from noon until 7:30 p.m., mid-May through September.
