Proposition No. 1: An investment in our community’s future health

- The aged Willapa Harbor Hospital in South Bend is due for replacement.
At Pacific County Voices Uniting, we believe in the power of community. PCVU is a 100% BIPOC-led organization committed to fostering healthy civic engagement. We understand how crucial it is for everyone — regardless of background — to have access to the services they need to thrive. That’s why we are urging our neighbors to vote to approve Proposition No. 1, a bond measure on behalf of Willapa Harbor Hospital that will provide much-needed funding for new healthcare facilities right here in Pacific County.
Why new healthcare facilities matter
Proposition No. 1 offers a solution. By approving this bond, we can build a new facility that meets the needs of today and the future. Not only will it reduce the need to travel long distances for basic care, but it will also bring more local job opportunities, greater privacy for patients, and enhanced safety across the board.
A new facility will allow our local healthcare providers to expand their services — bringing additional specialty clinics like cardiology and pain management to our community. Imagine being able to access these critical services without leaving the county or dealing with the added costs of travel. That’s the kind of care we can bring to our community by voting to approve Proposition No. 1.
More than just a building
This is about more than just bricks and mortar — it’s about ensuring our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have access to the same, if not better, healthcare we had. This is an investment in our future generations, just as those who came before us invested in our healthcare.
We have the chance to make a lasting impact on the health of our community — ensuring that we continue to have access to care for generations to come.
Our community deserves better
Our current healthcare facilities are over 70 years old and no longer meet the growing needs of our residents. Built for a time when healthcare was practiced in ways that no longer align with today’s standards, these buildings have aging infrastructure, faulty HVAC systems, and lack essential services like reliable hot water. Simply put, the facilities we rely on are not designed to provide the level of care that we — and our future generations — deserve.
Your health, your community, your future
At the heart of Proposition No. 1 is a simple truth: healthcare is not just about buildings or services; it’s about people. It’s about you, your family, and your neighbors. Proposition No. 1 is about ensuring we can continue to provide care right here at home, without the need for long-distance travel or outdated systems.
This proposition is an investment in our future — a future with better healthcare, more jobs, and a healthier community. The time to act is now, for our families, for ourselves, and for the generations that will follow.
I urge you to vote to approve Proposition No. 1 by April 22. Together, we can build a healthcare system that supports everyone in our community.
