Letter: Do we want a new hospital, or do we need a new hospital?

Some people think that the Willapa Harbor Hospital board of commissioners want to build a new hospital just because they want a new one. We, on the other hand, feel that we need a new hospital because the main part of the hospital is 70 years old.

Not every room has its own bathroom. The rooms are too small — if you’re having a heart attack you want to make sure that the room is big enough — to hold all modern-day equipment that will be necessary to save your life, right?
If your visit to the hospital requires an MRI, you have to walk outside to get to the MRI machine located in a trailer. Is it raining?
Did you know that to get clean laundry, you also have to go outside?

To get a patient from the Emergency Room to the helipad, they have to be pushed the entire length of the hospital and then across the parking lot to begin their flight to a receiving medical facility.
Things could be better!
We don’t want a new hospital; we need a new hospital!
