Fireworks Letter: ‘I’m sure this is not how it happened’

To the Pacific County Board of Commissioners:

The word going around was that you three had decided you didn’t want the fireworks ban to be instituted, so you called for a 60% minimum. That way you could say you left it up to the people to decide, knowing the 60% wouldn’t happen.
Your statement, as I remember, was that you wanted to increase the turnout.
Your fear was that a rabid group on one side would turn out and the other side would not be motivated. You were aware that all polls seemed to indicate that the split in the electorate over the whole of the county, turned out consistently to be 50/50, whatever the source of the information.

However, as we all know, in a democracy 50% plus one beats 50 minus one.
Obviously, you were confusing 50% turnout with 50% of votes when you decided on the restriction.
I’ve looked and looked and can’t find any votes (except money bills and law changes) that were subjected to a 60% vote. If you know of any, I’d love to hear about them.
At any rate, I hope you will go by the usual definition.
Fifty percent plus anything beats 50% minus nearly nothing in this country.
No?
Please prove the conspiracy mongers wrong.
Please vote to follow the will of the majority.

Since I sent the letter above, the commissioners have had a special meeting, called a workshop, to discuss the issue. Evidently the only thing to come of that meeting was an agreement to kick the can farther down the road.
Do they want to delay it so even if they agree to honor the results of the election, it will be too late to put a ban into effect till at least 2025?
To put it mildly, it makes one wonder…
