Fireworks Letter: Does your vote really count?

I have only attended two commissioner meetings and one workshop regarding the fireworks issue and have not attended any other commissioner meetings or workshops. I have to say, I was shocked at both the fireworks meetings and the workshop! Now I am all fired up — no pun intended.

I have never heard so many excuses other than on the national political news! I felt that it was a huge waste of time trying to communicate with the commissioners. Commissioner Lisa Olsen showed her bias through her dismissiveness to Shelby of Better Beaches and Byways and her obedient attitude towards the one businessman who attended the workshop. I should add that I was attending for several others who were at work but support the ban.

It baffles me as to why they would waste money with an advisory vote if they had no intention of following through with the majority vote? Commissioner Olsen made it very clear that she doesn’t support any bans, of any kind. So it’s a free-for-all in Pacific County. My husband refers to it as “an open county to do as you please with no consequences.” They are proving him right, not only on this issue, but with their support or lack thereof, of the sheriff’s office.

Throughout the country, voters are questioning the validity of our voting systems and right here in our county we have to question the validity of our system as well. The voters spoke and the commissioners’ job is to listen, not tell the voters what they think is best based on their personal opinions. Their lack of action and lack of concern for the taxpayers in this county is shameful.

When there is a tragedy, how will they sleep at night — from what I have witnessed, pretty well, if they have a home left.
