The honors continue to pile up for talented multi-sport Naselle athlete Kolten Lindstrom, whose Comet career ended with graduation.

The senior, who also excels in football and basketball, was one of two baseball players honored in the WIAA “player of the week” selections. The high school sport’s governing body selected 12 athletes from around the state.

Lindstrom’s citation noted that he helped lead his team to a 4-2 victory over Mount Vernon Christian in the 1B state baseball tournament, getting on base and playing excellent defense behind the plate as the catcher.

The day before, he pitched a complete game and picked up the win in the semifinal against top-seeded DeSales, striking out seven while allowing just one walk, two hits and no earned runs. He had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning and helped his own cause out at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. The week before, the senior right-hander got another win, this time in the quarterfinals against fourth-seeded Almira/Coulee-Hartline, pitching 6.1 innings, striking out eight and allowing only three hits and two earned runs.

The selections lag behind because of the need for time to collate nominations. The entire Lindstrom family was making news shortly after the events described above when Kolten and sophomore brother Jacob, plus their father, Randy, who is the head coach, powered NHS to its second consecutive 1B state championship trophy.
