Gluesenkamp Perez office hours in Ilwaco

ILWACO — Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez’s staff is holding mobile office hours in Pacific County. Residents of Washington’s Third District will be able to walk in to get assistance with federal agencies like the VA, IRS, and State Department. The congresswoman’s team will be available on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ilwaco Community Building at 158 First Avenue N. Constituents can enter the library door and take a left to find the Community Room.

Planning discussion included in chamber meeting

OCEAN PARK — The Ocean Park Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their September membership meeting on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 8 a.m. at the Pacific County Fire District #1 Building, Community Hall. In addition to regular business meeting, the chamber will be having guest speaker Kelly Rupp from the Pacific County Planning Commission. He will be sharing updates on the potential walker’s ferry between Nahcotta and Willapa Harbor across the bay. Also, updates on the future of EV charging stations on the peninsula, rising sea level study and overall growth management in Pacific County. These meetings are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Crab gear meeting set for Sept. 12

MONTESANO — The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting an industry meeting to discuss proposed rules and their implementation in the coastal commercial Dungeness crab fishery on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. The proposed rules update line marking requirements and surface gear maximums to identify gear used in the crab fishery and improve whale entanglement reporting. ‘Lost Songs of the Suomi Synod’ in Naselle

NASELLE — Finnish-American folk/rock songwriter and performer Jonathan Rundman will present a concert Friday, Sept. 13, and 7 p.m. at Naselle Lutheran Church, 308 Old Knappton Rd; admission by freewill donation. Rundman’s tour is in support of the “Lost Songs of the Suomi Synod” book and research project. This is a musical and theological memoir of Rundman’s Lutheran ancestors who emigrated from Finland in the early 1900s. The book collects Rundman’s arrangements and translations of 28 songs from this Nordic immigrant community who settled in Upper Michigan, Minnesota, and in Washington State communities such as the Seattle area and Naselle.

Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum hosts dahlia show

ILWACO — The Columbia Pacific Dahlia Show hosted by CPHM is both a contest and a showcase for locally grown dahlias. After a successful debut in 2023, it returns Sept. 13 and 14. Dahlia entries will be accepted Thursday, Sept. 12 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. 42nd NW Garlic Festival set for beautiful OP

OCEAN PARK — The 42nd NW Garlic Festival will be back at Sheldon Park Sept. 14 and 15. As a free event, it will have over 30 vendors featuring crafts, food and beverages, gift items and much more! Sheriff hosts community update

LONG BEACH — Pacific County Sheriff Daniel Garcia will host a community update and open forum Thursday, Sept. 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Pacific County Annex Building, 7013 Sandridge Road. This is an in-person opportunity to hear from the sheriff about crime and law enforcement trends, and ask questions.

Pacific Northwest Authors Book Fair

ILWACO — Thirty authors will appear at the annual Pacific Northwest Authors Book Fair. The event will take place at the Peninsula Church Center, 5000 N Place, Seaview from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5. The event is organized by Long Beach author Jan Bono and will feature Karl Marlantes, author of “Deep River,” in a question-and-answer session at noon. Other authors set to appear include David Campiche, Robert Michael Pyle, Pete Young, Jim Tweedie, Mandy Schimelpfenig, Greg Zschomler, Jim Hallaux and Ferrell Hornsby.

AAUW hosting election forum Oct. 23

ILWACO — The local chapter of the American Association of University Women will host a voters’ forum from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Hilltop School auditorium, 314 Brumbach Ave. N.E., in Ilwaco. Candidates for the Washington state House and Senate, as well as the Pacific County Commission, have been invited, as well as those running for U.S. Congress. Details of those expected to attend will be announced.

Master Gardener Plant Clinics

SOUTH BEND — The WSU Master Gardeners of Pacific County will be hosting twice monthly Plant/Answer clinics through September 2024, on the second and fourth Mondays of each month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the WSU Extension Office located in the courthouse annex building at 1216 W. Robert Bush Drive in South Bend. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your home gardening questions about plants, soil, insects, and other topics. AlAnon meetings on Peninsula and Zoom

AlAnon Family Groups are open to any adult. The only requirement for membership is that there is a concern about problem drinking by a relative or friend.
