I almost spit my coffee out when reading the letter by Mr. Kovach. While I might agree with him on the appearance of the port, when you start looking under the glossy appearance one cannot really believe things are at a “high level of efficiency.”

The port is in the spotlight not from being run so efficiently, but from mismanagement and the director not being forthcoming of information requested by your paper and others. The people want to know what is really going on and are being shut out. There is much that needs to be exposed.

Perhaps it is best that Mr. Kovach withdrew from the election process as we don’t need another “rubber stamp” commissioner. It’s a shame his name will still be on the ballot and it may draw votes away from better candidates.
