Oct. 1 — Dispatched to the high school for a student found with a vape pen. The principal reported the vape sensor went off in the restroom and after reviewing the security camera a student was identified. The mother said she did not know where the student would have gotten the pen, which was disposed at the office.

A white SUV lost a dolly it was towing as the vehicle was traveling north on Pacific. The dolly entered the southbound lane of traffic, where it collided with a UPS truck. The white SUV left the scene and witnesses didn’t get a license plate number. The UPS driver was taken to the hospital via ambulance for back pain. The case was investigated and police expect to issue a citation.

Oct. 2 — Ocean Beach Hospital reported three instances of suspected check fraud, with money deposited and withdrawn into accounts in Mississippi.

Hilltop Middle School called to report a raccoon was walking in the middle of the road toward the water reservoir and it looked like it was weaving and walking crooked. It did not appear to be injured, but the caller was worried it might have rabies.

Adam S. Hart, 36, of Portland, was cited for third-degree driving while license suspended after being stopped for expired registration.

Oct. 4 — Kaylee E. Joseph, 43, of Salem, was cited for hit and run of unattended vehicles after allegedly backing into two vehicles and leaving the scene.

A person reported his vacation home was broken into sometime in the previous week. Multiple rifles were taken along with miscellaneous items. There was forced entry into the shed attached to the house where the spare key was kept and it was missing. He suspects it may have been a female who was aware of where the key was located, but he did not have proof. His house in Portland was also burglarized in the last two months without forced entry.

Theft of 26 gallons of gas was reported from vehicles on south Idaho Street.

A female reported her storage unit was burglarized sometime in the previous three days. She said many items were stolen, including her Apple Watch, several chainsaws and an air compressor. She has stored her husband’s belongings there since he went to prison. She named possible suspects.

The manager of an RV park stated she received a counterfeit $10 bill. She said the marker she uses to identify counterfeits flagged the bill and she only wanted to turn it in. After looking closely at the bill, the officer concluded it wasn’t actually counterfeit and was safe to return to the owner. “Other opinions welcome.”

Jose Lizardi Aguilar, 28, of Tacoma, was cited for first-degree driving while license suspended after being stopped for an expired vehicle registration. He had multiple warrants but the jail wouldn’t accept him.

Oct. 5 — Police responded to an Ilwaco call in which a woman said her husband pulled a painting off the wall and it scratched her head. She said he also turned the power off and was outside with some people. She was upset with the way he acts like she doesn’t exist. But police observed no scratches or other injuries. She went on to say that he is on drugs and so is she and asked police “why we are protecting him. … I told her that we are not protecting him and we have been there many times and we were not going to ‘commit’ him.” He was calm and cooperative and said he just wanted her to leave but she keeps showing up.

Oct. 6 — Report of a disorderly and confused female at an Ilwaco pub. She was saying “weird things to customers which is why they wanted her to leave.” They told responding officers that the subject had already left, however. She was eventually located and told police she didn’t feel safe and how $10,000 was stolen from her by owners of the RV park where she lives. Police gave her a ride home.

Oct. 8 — An Ilwaco citizen reported a male “screaming at the top of his lungs.” Officers contacted the resident who said he was playing video games. “The subject told me he would close his windows and not make any more noise.”

Oct. 11 — The owner of a vacation property on north Ocean Beach Boulevard said there have been homeless subjects attempting to set up camp next to his detached garage. A neighbor has shooed off a subject in the past. They try to get into the crawl space to sleep there inside the garage.

Oct. 12 — A Long Beach resident said he had a grill stolen recently and wanted to know his rights regarding defending his property. He was advised that he has the right to defend himself and others and his property but that he should call police so they can handle it. He asked if he would be able to pepper-ball someone if they were stealing and an officer told him that he couldn’t tell him he can do that, and should instead call police.

Oct. 13 — A Long Beach resident reported someone came in through the doggy door and stole $500 out of her room. Later she said $300. An officer told her that she may want to start locking the doggy door if that’s where she believes people enter from. Also for her to look into getting a camera, especially if it keeps happening, and report it each time so police can try and identify who may be doing it.

Police responded to a report of a male subject with a bicycle yelling and screaming. He told an officer he was having a bad day but was done yelling. He was heading out of town and departed without incident.
