Kermit is a great dog in search of a forever home.

Volunteer dog walker Kate Cooper speaks to foster Eric Anthony about his foster pup Kermit, and the search for his forever home.

Kate: Hi Eric, thanks for taking the time to speak with me today about Kermit. You’ve been fostering him for a while now, and it sounds like you’ve built quite the bond. Can you start by telling us a bit about how Kermit came into your life?

Eric: Sure! Kermit was found wandering the streets of Naselle about 10 months ago. Since then, he’s been living at the South Pacific County Humane Society. I started volunteering there about two months ago, and Kermit really stood out to me. I decided to foster him, and in that time, we’ve grown really close. He’s basically become my shadow; he follows me everywhere and we do everything together.

Kate: It sounds like he’s really attached to you! What makes Kermit such a special dog in your eyes?

Eric: Kermit is an incredibly sweet and affectionate dog. He’s around 7 years old, so he’s got a great balance of energy and calmness. He loves to cuddle up in bed and burrow under the covers, and he thinks he’s a lap dog, even though he’s not exactly small! If you stop petting him for a second, he’ll give you this worried look and roll over, which pretty much guarantees you’ll keep petting him.

Kate: It sounds like he’s full of personality! How does he do with other animals?

Eric: He’s been great with my two senior cats. They’re not best buddies yet, but they respect each other’s space, and I’ve noticed they’re getting more comfortable around one another. He’s definitely got a gentle side, which is really nice to see.

Kate: You mentioned he enjoys being out and about at dog-friendly events. Can you tell us more about that?

Eric: Absolutely! Kermit really enjoys socializing, and he’s easy to take anywhere. I took him to Oktoberfest in Chinook recently, and he made a bunch of new friends, both human and canine. He’s great on a leash, doesn’t pull, and never barks or growls. His big baby face melts people’s hearts, and he’s always up for meeting new people.

Kate: That’s amazing. How is he with activities like playing or going for walks?

Eric: He loves playing with medium-sized Kong tennis balls. He’ll chase the ball for sure, but there’s only a 50/50 chance he’ll actually bring it back! When we go for walks, he’s obsessed with smells and has to investigate everything. It’s like he’s on a mission to get familiar with every scent along the way.

Kate: And what about car rides? Does he enjoy traveling with you?

Eric: Kermit is the perfect travel buddy. He loves car rides, even if he just ends up sleeping through most of it. I bring a bed for him in the back of my SUV, and sometimes he’s up front being my co-pilot, and other times he’s knocked out in the back like a passed-out Uber passenger! He’s happy to stick his head out the window or just relax and enjoy the ride.

Kate: It sounds like Kermit is a well-rounded, easygoing dog. What kind of home do you think would be ideal for him?

Eric: Honestly, I just want him to end up with an individual, couple or family that values him and gives him the love he deserves. He’s got so much love to give, and he’s such an easy dog to have around. I’m in the middle of a transitional period in my life, and I unfortunately can’t take him with me. But I really want to find him a permanent home before I leave. If anyone’s looking to add an amazing dog to their family, I encourage them to reach out to the South Pacific Humane Society.

Kate: Thanks so much, Eric. It’s clear how much Kermit means to you, and I hope he finds his forever home soon!

Eric: Thank you! I appreciate the opportunity to share Kermit’s story. He really is one of a kind.
