Letter: This is no time for kumbaya

I have been getting quite a few comments about me being negative. I am definitely not a negative person. The events going on in our country, both illegal and unconstitutional, are being praised by some, but I find it impossible to not speak up. I am told I should bring people together. Yes, I agree, but who is willing to bend a little to join? Seems to me, the big divide is in Washington, D.C., not with the people I know or speak with. When outright hate is announced from D.C., someone must speak.
I find it difficult to believe anyone who knows what the National Labor Relations Board does would find it to be a good thing to eliminate. Unless, of course, you are Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, or other multi-billionaires with business interests against unions. Trump, just put it out of business, is allowing Bezos to ignore a big union vote.
Diversity, equity and inclusio, is now the boogieman of the year. Really? It has been distorted as being evil and negative.
Is it bringing anyone together, except other angry people, to suggest taking Canada, Greenland, Panama and now Gaza, by force if needed? Trump wanted Iraq’s oil, now its minerals and oil. Perhaps he can make a deal with Ukraine — they have rare earth minerals — that could be good for both.
Are you OK with Musk and his crew having access to all the country’s finances, including your personal information?
When it comes to foreign aid, I am sure some is a legitimate target, but elimination? Trump is taking a sledgehammer to all agencies he perceives are not to his liking. Some actions are illegal, and others are completely unconstitutional. Consider the chaos created by his actions. It will take months, maybe years, for courts to correct this mayhem. Meanwhile, it’s the “Wild West” in agencies.
So many want me to hum “Kumbaya, my Lord, kumbaya.” I pray for a time when we have patriotic elected officials, who care not, about their pockets or seats, but for the country as a whole.
