Letter: Ilwaco resident still waiting for response

On Nov. 13 I went to Ilwaco City Hall and asked how to get on the council agenda. However, since I was addressing the council during public comment time, no one responded. It was in regard to a letter I had given to the mayor, and I had delivered copies to each council member at the same meeting. The only response I had was the mayor telling me he didn’t believe there was anything he needed to respond to. I still think I deserve a response and an explanation. I spoke during the public comment time, however, evidently, that is not the right way to be able to discuss this.

At that time I was told I had to go to City Hall and ask that my concerns be put on the agenda. When I went to City Hall instead of being helped to get on the agenda I was told to get out or the police would be called to remove me. So, I left.
I then wrote the following letter, which I sent to the city administrator, with copies to city council and the mayor: “Dear Holly, I would like to put an item on the agenda for discussion. I hope it can be discussed and then moved to business for a vote. What steps do I have to take to make this happen? Please send me the information here so I can print it out. Thank you.” It was sent on Nov. 15. Today is Nov. 27 and I have received not only no response to my letter, I have received no acknowledgement that any one received my letter.
I can’t find answers by going to the council meeting and addressing them during the public comment. I cannot get answers by going to City Hall. I cannot get answers by asking my elected representatives through email. I think it’s time that my city government — our city government — begins to understand that openness and transparency are the roots of democracy.
