ROSBURG — Johnson Park is holding an open house on March 22 from noon until 6 p.m. to invite the public to see and enjoy the makeover of the building and grounds made possible by the hard work of its members and volunteers.

Many local residents attended school at the Rosburg Elementary School, as it was known back then, and will be thrilled to see how recent renovations have given it new life.

“We’re proud of the work that’s been done here at Johnson Park, and we’re delighted to show it off,” said board president Denise Blanchard. “Come on up to Johnson Park on March 22 and see what’s been accomplished. We’ll have the coffee pot on for you. If you like what you see and are interested in becoming a Johnson Park member, we will be offering a special membership price on the day of the open house.”

Johnson Park houses field offices for the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Department and Health and Human Services, a library, a fitness center, an activity room, a gymnasium, sewing room, craft room, conference room and a cafeteria that can be rented for events. It also is the home of the West End Food Pantry, which provides needed food items to the public on Thursdays from 1-5 p.m.

The library is open from noon to 3 p.m. on Mondays, noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 5-9 p.m. on Friday evenings. Health and Human Services is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday by appointment or walk-ins. To make an appointment, call Nurse Stacy Wynn at 360-795-6207 ext. 204. To meet at the field office with a representative from the Sheriff’s Department, call 360-465-2202 for an appointment.

Serena Travis, a daughter of Rosburg residents Robert and Marilyn Johnson, recently rented one of the available rooms for her company, Divine Sign Productions. The company performs a myriad of tasks including video editing, website development and maintenance, marketing productions, independent film release rollouts, audiobook support for authors as well as technical coaching.

Johnson Park members have 24/7 access to the fitness center, activity room and gymnasium as well as access to the library during its operating hours. Member access to the sewing room, craft room and conference room is by appointment. To make an appointment, call 360-465-2310.

The park hosts a variety of activities during the year. Currently, it is offering Bunco on the first Wednesday and the third Saturday of each month from 6-8 p.m.

Johnson Park is owned by the county and operated and maintained by a volunteer board of directors and two paid maintenance workers. Membership is divided into two six-month periods; January through June, and July through December. The cost for each period is $60 for one person or $120 for a family.
