The musical ministry of Ilwaco’s Sarah Frank continues this Christmas.

She has written a new song, “The Promise,” which celebrates the birth of Jesus.

She performed it at the Ilwaco crab pot tree lighting ceremony, then posted a studio recording on YouTube on Dec. 8.

“I was inspired to write ‘The Promise’ after reading Isaiah, chapter 9:6-7 in the Bible,” she said. “I wanted to highlight not only his birth but his whole life on Earth and what he did for us on the cross.”

The Bible passage begins, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God, the everlasting father, the Prince of Peace.”

“He took on a body,

Became just like me.

Showed the world his glory,

So that every eye would see.”

— Lyric from “The Promise,” by Sarah James Frank

Frank, 20, graduated from Ilwaco High School in 2023 and earned a degree through the Running Start program at Grays Harbor College. Her family moved to Ilwaco from Vancouver in 2016 when her father, Vern Frank, became pastor at Pacific Bible Church. She is the church’s full-time worship leader, incorporating music into its ministry.

Her compositions are shared under the name Sarah James Frank.

She started writing songs at age seven. “As a young child, I was so shy that I could not even introduce myself to new people, let alone sing in front of them, but God set me free!” she proclaims on her website, sarahjamesfrank.com. “I never thought that I would be singing on stage in front of people or writing and releasing songs, but here I am.”

The site provides links to her online presence on YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, Instagram and TikTok. These platforms have chronicled her musical journey, which includes a 2019 album called “Home” and a single last year called “You are Forgiven.”

“The Promise” is her third release in 2024. Earlier, she produced two other singles, “Sound of His Glory” and “I See Jesus,” a song inspired in part to commemorate some friends’ engagement.

For her latest piece, she wrote the lyrics and music then contracted with an online recording studio called Musiversal. It features grand piano, cello, drums, acoustic guitar and synthesizer. She even created the single’s distinctive blue cover design.

“I am excited to see where ‘The Promise’ will go,” she said. “I hope my songs touch people’s hearts with the love of God and draw them closer to Jesus.”
