OCEAN PARK – Herbert “Bud” Caples Runyan and Ethel A. Runyan observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 21. A picnic at Lewisville Park for family and friends was given by their children.

They were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Nov. 29, 1952 in Vancouver. Both graduated from Vancouver High School and attended Pacific Lutheran University.
Bud worked for 21 years in the family store and Ethel 20 years as a dental assistant.
The family moved to Santa Monica, Calif., in 1973 where Bud graduated from the Gemological Institute, then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1974. Bud was a sales representative for a New York jewelry company before moving to Ocean Park in 1990.

They have five children: Jeanette Caples, Cindy, Jim, Gerry and David Runyan; ten grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Bud has been involved in Rotary, Boy Scouts and Toastmasters. Together they have enjoyed St. Paul’s Choir, Brahms Singers and Twins Club. They’ve been members of Mazama Mountaineers for 50 years and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for 40 years.
The couple is currently enjoying a busy life together as active members of Ocean Park Lutheran Church. They recently traveled to Hawaii, South America and Spain.
