NASELLE – Three of our very own students recently won honors in an essay contest sponsored by the VFW Women’s Auxiliary of Kelso.

Jamie Kimball won first place in the fourth grade. Her award was a $25 check.

Seventh-grader Alex Bennett won first place for the seventh- and eighth-grade division. He was awarded a $100 savings bond. Both Jamie and Alex wrote essays with the theme, “My Dream for America.”

Garrick Bennett, a ninth-grader, was also a first-place winner in the ninth- through 12th-grade division. Garrick’s audio essay was on the theme, “My Commitment to America.” He was also awarded a $100 savings bond.

All three writers will have their essays advance from the post level competition to the district level for further judging. The students were sponsored by the Kelso VFW Post and competed with Naselle students, as well as, those from several schools in the Kelso area.
