Shirley Hopkins of Ocean Park wins year’s Long Beach Lions scholarship

LONG BEACH – The recipient of the $2,000 Long Beach Lions Club Scholarship for 2003 is Shirley Hopkins, daughter of D.C. and Linda Hopkins of Ocean Park.

Shirley is 2001 graduate of Ilwaco High School who is attended Central Washington State University. She is working on a double major in elementary education and early childhood education with plans of a teaching career.

In addition, Shirley is in the Douglas Honors College (named after Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas) which entails additional classes and studies. This college is within the university and has higher requirements than the standard student program.

During the school year, Shirley works at the Central Washington University library, but comes home in the summer and works for Tommie Brown at either “Kiss of Mist” or “The Great Escape.”
