James ‘Jim’ LindrosPORTLAND – James O. “Jim” Lindros, 87, of Astoria, died Feb. 8, 2004, in Portland. The son of Adolf J. and Hannah M. (Nieminen) Lindros, he was born April 10, 1916, in Lakeside, Ore.
Mr. Lindros grew up and attended schools in Lakeside and North Bend, Ore. He told the story of how he used to row one mile and then walk one mile to school as there were no roads around the lake.
He met his future wife while visiting his brother in Deep River. He and Marion McAllister were married Dec. 10, 1938. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2003.
Mr. Lindros spent most of his adult life around Grays River. He was a member of the Grays River Methodist Church. He used his heavy equipment to clear the new church site and also assisted in the building. He worked as a wood splitter, powder monkey, choker setter and logger. In 1948 he and a family member started a sawmill and logging company. He later worked as a carpenter, building and remodeling homes.
He loved sportfishing and became a commercial fisherman. He built his own fishing boat. His two fishing partners were Oris Smalley of Rosburg and Dean Badger of Grays River. Tia, his terrier dog, was a constant companion.
After retirement, Mr. Lindros moved to Astoria where he enjoyed making many types of woodcrafts and did woodworking. He loved playing cribbage, bird watching, smelt dipping, clam digging, pottery, upholstery and above all, family. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: wife Marion Lindros in Astoria; sons and daughters-in-law David G. and Connie Lindros of Montesano and Steven J. and Jeanette Lindros of Astoria; grandchildren Laura and David Riat of Washougal, Brian Lindros of Astoria and Erik Lindros of Montesano; great-grandchildren Tonya, Kayla, Jimmy and Dan Riat of Washougal and Austin Lindros of Jewell, Ore.; sisters Saima Caughell and Betty Wilson of Pendleton, Ore., sister-in-law Helen Lindros Lester of Santa Maria, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Jenny Kuedell and three brothers, Leo, Ed and Bill Lindros.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Grays River Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to stay for a reception at the church following the service.
