“Some of the host of events that filled his life included service in the Navy during World War I and working in his father’s grocery store in Long Beach during the 1920s along with being a deputy sheriff at one time. Jacobson ran a passenger service up the beach to the wreck of the Solano near Ocean Park and worked as contractor. He helped to build the road to South Bend and in the 1930s carried mail from Kelso to the Peninsula. He originated the first Long Beach fire department in 1926, but it later disbanded to reorganize into the Long Beach Volunteer Fire Department in 1936.
“Jacobson served at various times as justice of the peace and was an original member of local life saving crew boats in the 1930s. Jacobson started the Long Beach Ambulance Service in 1937 and was a past fire chief, councilman and was mayor of Long Beach from 1935 to 1941. He served during World War II in the Marine Corps and operated the Long Beach Tavern for 11 years. He was one of the first charter fishermen on the Columbia River in the late 1930s and early ’40s and retired as a charter skipper in 1970.
“Jacobson was also a charter member of the Long Beach Elks Lodge No. 1937 and was a charter member of the Don R. Grable Post No. 48 American Legion of Ilwaco. Survivors include his wife Marian at home in Long Beach; two grandsons Randy and Paul; two granddaughters Shaula and Nina; one great grandson Don and one great granddaughter Joey. …
