PORTLAND – Chinook resident Manerva M. “Minnie” Stucki, 83, passed from this life on Nov. 3, 2006, in Portland, Ore. She was born April 16, 1923, in Gresham, Ore., the daughter of Arlis and Dottie (Anthony) McMillan. She grew up on the family farm in the Victory Heights area of east Multnomah County. She received a degree in nursing from Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, class of 1946.
She married Carl Stucki on May 8, 1945, in Alamogordo, N. M. She made home wherever Carl was stationed during his 30-year career with the U.S. Air Force. Following his retirement the couple settled in Chinook in 1969. They joined forces to operate and expand Ocean View Convalescent Center in Long Beach where she was the director of nursing.
Mrs. Stucki was a member of the Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church, Seaview. She was an organizer and member of the Beach Bonsai Club. She enjoyed planting and caring for flowers at the Washington end of the Astoria-Megler Bridge near her residence and spending time with family.
Besides her husband she is survived by a sister Metta Thompson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; children Carla Stucki-Amerau of Alexandria, Va., Dan Stucki of Long Beach, Jan Erickson of Portland, Ore., and Rebecca Stucki of Aberdeen; grandchildren Tom Stucki, Jake Erickson, Brittany Amerau, Bo Kay Erickson and Colin Amerau.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Ocean Beach Presbyterian Church in Seaview with a reception following at the church. Private inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium. The family requests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, 12721 30th Ave. NE Suite 101, Seattle, Washington 98125. Arrangements are by Penttila’s Chapel by The Sea, Long Beach.
