Recycle cellphone, save someone's eyesight

PENINSULA – The Long Beach Lions Club has started a recycling program and is looking for donations of your used cellular telephone. Club member Steven Linhart has placed 10 collection boxes in the local area.

The phones that you donate need to be working phones no longer in use, chargers or manuals do not need to be included. This fundraising project is for the Lions Campaign Sightfirst II. This program has restored sight to seven million people through cataract surgeries, prevented serious vision loss for 20 million people and improved eye care services for hundreds of millions and many people in our area. Sightfirst was launched in 1989 to battle preventable blindness.

For all who wish to donate a used cellular telephone, the following is a list of 10 locations where you can drop off your kind donation: Okie’s Sentry Market at 1820 Bay Avenue in Ocean Park; Peninsula Senior Center at 21603 Pacific Highway in Ocean Park; Pioneer Market at 2006 Pacific Avenue N. in Long Beach; Chinook Observer 205 Bolstad Avenue East in Long Beach; Key Banking Center at 200 Bolstad East in Long Beach; U.S. Post Office at 101 Oregon Avenue in Long Beach; Sid’s IGA Market at 4401 Pacific Way South in Seaview; Ilwaco High School office on School Road in Ilwaco; Ilwaco City Hall at 102 First Avenue N. in Ilwaco and Ilwaco Market at 108 Spruce Street in Ilwaco.
