Comets win sportsmanship, academic and athletic all-league honors

NASELLE – The Comets football team and coaching staff shared the Pacific 2B League sportsmanship award for 2008 with South Bend and the Naselle cross country squad was state academic champions. The Comets Shelby Leeland landed on the all-league volleyball first team.
Naselle’s Gabe See was first-team tight end and Mike Shirley was on the first team at center and defensive tackle. Alan Erickson was also on the first team defensive team at linebacker and Austin Burkhalter was honored at safety. Nick Hines, Tony Fletcher, Marcus Sanchez and Tommy Rose earned all-league honorable mention honors. Erickson was also all-league in academics with a grade point average over 3.7.
For the second year in a row the Comets boys cross country team won the WIAA academic state championship with a combined 3.762 grade point average. The team was made up of Conor and Cramer Smith, Nathan Reitz, Drew Macy, Alex Bennett, Ollie Baker, and Alex Bighill.
The Comets volleyball team had seven players make the league all-adademic team with a combined 3.871 GPA: Rebecca Rostad, Shelby Leeland, Risa Fletcher, Emily Green, Taylor Wasdmundt, Haleigh See, Nicole Tarabochia.
