Oville’s singing postmaster back for Sunday Vespers

OYSTERVILLE – The multigenerational and multitalented Killingsworth Family will be sharing the Oysterville Vesper services limelight Sunday with Pastor David George of Ilwaco’s New Life Church. While Pastor David will be officiating for the first time in the historic church, the Killingsworths are ‘old hands,’ having performed at Vesper services for many years.
Of the Killingsworth Family group, it is Casey who is best known to local area residents. Often called “The Singing Postmaster,” he had charge of Oysterville’s mail from 1993 to 2002 with interim positions in Long Beach and Astoria. His irrepressible sense of humor and infectious laugh endeared him to postal patrols on both sides of the river.
Over the years, many Killingsworth Family members, in a variety of combinations, have gathered on the church dais to sing and play for Vesper congregations. Casey’s father Jerry (who identified his music as from the ‘hootenanny-era), Casey’s children Josh and Meghan, his brothers Sean and Monty, and Monty’s daughter, Maya have all presented their joyful music at Vesper services.
Visitors and residents are encouraged to “come as you are” to the 3 p.m. Sunday service and are reminded that the offering each week is used to help maintain the 116-year-old church building.
