Letter: Check out antennaweb.org for digital TV answers

Last week I undertook a burning question: When digital TV gets going, what happens to my limited reception in Ocean Park? I relish the thought that with a modest antenna on the deck, I can watch the news and a few stations from Portland. Advertising suggests I need to pay somebody – yet again – to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, like TV.

I called a Portland station that had “Seniors in Action” answering queries – they told me the outlying areas would remain analog until 2011. But what then? I called the Chinook Observer, I had a call-back that said nothing changes very much in June.

But where was the real nugget of insight?

So here it is: I found this Web site, antennaweb.org. All you have to do is enter your zip code, and a map comes up to hone your location to a fine point. Then you get all the information you will ever want about size of antenna, distance from signal, and even the angle to position your antenna for reception – including the stations you can receive.

Since I have been wondering about all this for a while, I was thinking I should share this information with the neighborhood.
