Obituaries: Shelley Lee Taylor-Miller

VANCOUVER – Former Long Beach resident Shelley L. Miller, 45, died in Vancouver of natural causes, on Oct. 2, 2010.

The daughter of Donald and Diane (Hall) Taylor, she was born in Newport, Ore., on May 8, 1965. As a child she lived with her parents in Charleston, Ore., Port Angeles, Long Beach, Calif., and Garden Grove, Calif. In 1973, they settled in Ilwaco. She attended Hilltop Elementary, Long Beach Elementary and was a 1983 graduate of Ilwaco High School where she sang in the choir.

Following high school she moved to Vancouver, and attended Western Business College. In 1987 she returned to the Peninsula. She became an EMT for the Long Beach Ambulance Service, worked at Circle of Life Adult Foster Care and at several restaurants including Chuck’s and Sea Mist. In 2004 she moved to Camas, where she was employed at Stewart Title Insurance until her illness a year ago.

She had been baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Seaview. She was an avid computer aficionado – utilizing online and Facebook connections to stay in touch with her many friends. Blessed with an excellent voice, she also enjoyed singing. A lover of animals, she enjoyed the companionship of her dog Jaxon. In addition, she was an avid Seahawks football fan with countless items of memorabilia and she looked forward to every Seahawks game. She was a lover of eagles, posted sightings on her computer and she enjoyed watching them soar in the clouds.

She and Matthew Miller were married April 15, 2000, and he survives residing in Camas. Also surviving are her father, Donald Taylor of Beaverton, Ore.; mother Diane (Bill) Wason of Ilwaco; a daughter, Kayla Taylor of Camas; her sisters, Linda Reeder of Ilwaco, Melissa Wason of Camas, Laura Bowers of Oroville, Calif.; and Denise Breuss of Canby, Ore.; one brother, Chris Wason of Ilwaco; and many other members of her extended family. Her brother, Don Taylor, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held on Oct. 9, at 1 p.m., at Penttila’s Chapel by the Sea in Long Beach. Graveside service follows at Ilwaco Cemetery with a reception at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaview. Memorials may be made to the South Pacific County Humane Society, P.O.
